Credit card debts

Hi

Only my second post so please be gentle. I have £40K in credit card debts, most of these cards almost all in fact are very old. I get letter from debt agency saying credit card company has passed debt to us. They write again with lot of ifs and maybes and then after 3 letters they stop writing. I then get letter from new debt agency and cycle of letters starts again with stop after 3. This made me think perhaps they are UE (wishful thinking maybe but read of this on MSE).

Please how can I check up on this.
