    Howdy all!!

Interesting one today. As part of my credit cleanup activities, I have one account which I just cannot recognise. Therefore I've just popped to Barclays, with passport in hand to identify myself.

She immediately said "It's out of date" ... yes, I know that, but it still legal document that shows who I am! So I produced my driving license to shut her up!

The next issue was "You've moved house, and you are querying an account at your old house ... and you have nothing to identify you there!".

I said, "I will be now be linked on your systems, and you can find me. Plus I can give you sufficient details from my other accounts that I know of.".

She went to speak to the manager and came back with the all clear.

She then couldn't find my account on the system.

    Let's say for example:
On my credit report I have an account ending xxxx4331
Yet my Barclays account that I can remember ended 433.

That is the nearest account number that we could find.

Could it just be that the bank have made a mistake when reporting to the CRAs?

How will I get this amended?

If I send Barclays a letter saying "Here's my discharge paperwork", for account ending 4331 will they update their records?

Likewise if I contact the CRA's, and say "Account 4331 doesn't exist", they will contact the lender and get mighty confused!

Hmmmm ... I might print off my Credit Report and head into Barclays with it. Then I can show the lady all the details I have, and try to see if it shows a balance against that account. I should then be able to match them up on my Credit Report! What a feckin' nightmare!

      Another question:

If a Credit Card company sells my account AFTER the date of BR to a Debt Collection Agency ... what options are there?

One CC company sold my account as "Defaulted" to a DCA. I have no contact details for the DCA, and google doesn't help much either.

Can I contact the CC company and say "Oi, you sold it and shouldn't have. Get it back and update it correctly?"

Is it their legal responsibility to do so?

Or, do I now need to take it up with this DCA who I can't find ... and have had no letters from!?

Assume that the CC debt was included in the BR

            It says:

            TTI SPC

But trawling Google gives only results from various debt advice sites, each with different contact details.

Ok, I'll assume it was included in the BR, and just contact TTI SPC.

                Hi All

Another update .. hope everyone is well.

The credit cleanup is 50% complete.
                • TTI SPC have been tracked down, and updated my credit record.
                • Barclays have located the unknown account and amended the closure/satisfied dates.
                • Sandtander and Barclaycard as yet have ignored my first letter to get them to update my credit record.
                • Going to send second letter today, with threat of ombudsman
                • Applied for a Vanquis card today, and was accepted ... purely for emergencies/credit rebuild. The interest rate on that thing is scary!

Right ... it's been two months since I sent out my "Clean Up My Credit File" letters. Of the 5 entries, 3 have been resolved, and two are outstanding.

Letters now being sent again to the DCA's to say "Final Warning - Clean them up, or I'll tell the ICO"

FF have you emailed the Experian, Equifax and Callcredit to ask for their help with the 2 creditors who are not updating your files? Worth a go too

Oooh apologies. I didn't get notification of this reply ... sorry!

So ... my threat letters worked. In both instances, Santander and Barclaycard contacted me to say "Sorry we have seen proof that you've sent us letters, but we haven't responded to them". Each one sent a cheque through as compensation £50 and £20 if I recall. Not bad for me writing to them to remove my bad debt defaults from my credit record!

Since then my credit record is very empty ... but building up lots of nice green ticks due to my very careful use of the Vanquis card.

I'm considering applying for a Capital One card in the New Year, as I've had insider advice that banks/building societies don't take Vanquis' credit reports too seriously, as that know that they are a card for those with very poor credit!

Also today, I was in NatWest enquiring about their kids accounts. The lady enquired if I banked with NatWest, and long story short, she said if I was discharged from BR, then there's no reason why they wouldn't consider me. Tempted to move to NatWest mainly for an account I can grow out of my BR with. Plus the mobile banking app is streets ahead of the Co-op one! Co-op have been fab, but just a little limited with their online services!

Based on NiD's advice, I've applied to Santander for their 123 account. He didn't rate NatWest at all. I've cancelled my appt with NatWest today. The application for 123 account, I ensured I didn't apply for overdraft or their credit cards. I want to be seen as a minimal credit risk.

Fingers crossed, I find out in 2-3 days.

I have just read this thread from the beginning - What a fantastic thread. Well done to you for achieving what you have and for being so kind as to share it with us.

As for Santander, I have their 123 account but they won't give me a credit card. I have one default which is over 5 years old and have banked with them for 15 years. I think they must be quite strict.

                                Cheers Beefy ....

There's been a few things that I couldn't share, as it would have made me personally identifiable to specific people.

                                On the whole, Bankruptcy ....
"It's a means to an end. It's a huge pressure lifted when it all goes through. Personally I understand the ethos of paying every spare penny into your estate to recoup the losses. BUT it doesn't allow the bankrupt to learn to save for a rainy day, nor build an emergency fund. Imagine if a washing machine broke during the 6 years post bankruptcy ... what would most folks do ... yup Payday loan.

Don't get me wrong, bankruptcy is a struggle, even after the 12 months when you are discharged. You still have to be super careful with money. BUT at least what you have is your own, and you're not robbing Peter to pay Paul."
