Please help and sign petition for dialysis to remain a prescribed on the NHS 2015

    https://submissions.epetitions.direc...etitions/72236

I am a kidney patient myself and thankfully not got to that stage for dialysis as yet, but if the unfortunate did happen myself and others alike will not be able to afford to go private, with that so many lives could be lost, thank you for your support, below further details, again thank you.......

    Responsible department: Department of Health

Kidney disease charities were "stunned" to have been told this week (20 Nov '14) dialysis will no longer be a prescribed service on the English NHS from next year.
Care for dialysis patients should not be the responsibility of CCGs (clinical commissioning groups). Dialysis is a specialist service that should be managed by renal experts.
We want dialysis to remain a prescribed service on the NHS.

My friend was on dialysis for a few months, luckily his brother gave him a kidney in March, I'm happy to report that both are doing very well.

Not sure how this helps, but about 18 months ago, my nephew was in Spain working and has an infection which knocked out his kidneys.

After some time in ITU and then on dialysis he was put on the transplant list. The Spanish health service supplies their patients with home dialysis kits, and even arranged for him to go on holiday to Portugal supplying him with a portable machine and arranging supplies in Portugal for his 2 week holiday. He was expecting to wait for about 18 months for a transplant, as in Spain you opt out rather than in, and they have many road fatalities. However, as he was on dialysis for 8 hours overnight every night, he could keep on working, although limited to 1l of liquids a day. He lost 3 of his 10 stones.

The family were tested and his mother was a match and she went over to Spain and gave him a kidney. He is now running around playing football and enjoying life. Unfortunately transplants last only 10 years or so on average. So his future is pondered.

The NHS is different and the steps towards dialysis and transplant are more difficult. Certain ethnic groups are more prone to kidney disease and to congenital kidney complaints than others and the the resources are finite, which make the decisions even more difficult in some areas. I doubt my nephew would be alive had he been in some areas of the UK given that his kidney failure was from a wisdom tooth infection a month earlier, and only diagnosed in A&E when he went suddenly blind, as he would would not have got onto any list.

Think about signing up to the donors' lists as well as signing the petition.
