Not sure how sorn would work here, but if it is in anyway private land - like some housing association estates are, they would need permission off the land owner, otherwise it could be deemed as trespass - at least that used to be the case

        Re: New neighbours from Hell!

In my experience, reporting problem neighbours to the council is a complete waste of time. Having said that, my problems were 15 years ago (pre ASBOs) and the other neighbours (apart from one) were little old ladies living on their own who were terrified of the neighbours from hell and wouldn't get involved officially.

Hmm I agree from past experience police we're totally useless.....in the end it took a gunshot to our front door to make the housing association we were with move us....

              Re: New neighbours from Hell!

Maybe some of these neighbours already have ASBOs if their lifestyle is anything to go by. Although an ASBO is handed down by either a Magistrates Court or a Crown Court they do not give the recipient a criminal record because it is a civil matter. However it is a criminal offence to breach an ASBO and the police rely heavily on members of the public to be their eyes and ears - so I'd let them know so they cross check their existing records.

I believe that ASBO information is not protected under the DPA since it's a court order (Crime & Disorder Act 1998 usually) so in the public domain. In my neighbourhood the police often distribute door-to-door leaflets including the photos of the perpetrators to warn us of dodgy neighbours and to keep them on their toes. I think that's crossing the line on privacy a bit, but the police have their reasons

Remember the law on insurance has changed and regards SORN, if you are the registered keeper of a vehicle it now has to be insured whether it is SORN or not and also whether it is on private land or not.

In short if you are a registered keeper it has to be insured also.

I have to agree with you there Niddy.

I wish I'd dealt with my neighbour from hell problem differently as my financial problems started with having to move away and give up the degree I was studying at the time.

                    Re: New neighbours from Hell!

And the DVLA holds records of all vehicle insurance details on its database (otherwise they won't tax them) which means that a call to them is definitely not a waste of time

I think this situation requires indirect action not direct action. Grass 'em up to all and sundry and then keep your head down. You don't want a brick through your window or a steaming turd through your letter box (the weapon of choice with ASBO holders)

I thought hte ruling (last summer I believe) was that a registered vehicle had be EITHER insured or declared SORN - not both if applicable.

EDIT - Found the info HERE

There are loads of people living in this bungalow (3 beds.). It was bought by a woman who rents it out and this lot have come from a very rough part of the area. There are 4 cars parked up outside the house, a quad bike and a van and some(?) all of these people are at home all day. There are also 2 children living there. . . . .

. . . . I need to report him for dangerous driving and I also have reasons to believe they are drug dealing in there as well.

                          Any advice gratefully received.
If you think those kiddies may be 'at risk' living (if that's what it's called) in that negative environment with possible drug use involved (even if it's not being traded) then maybe a call to your local Social Services would be the right thing to do. They have a duty to follow up every tip-off (since tragic Baby P) and I believe that the welfare of any children is paramount at times like this. They're innocent bystanders

I agree that grassing them up is the way to go.... and I doubt I'll be the only one to do it. I've never been a snitch but do not want people like that living near me. Society is far too pc. I'm even starting to resent going back to work tomorrow (school) because my day revolves around trying to socialise the brats that these people pop out, don't bother to bring up properly.... and can hardly read or write by the time they reach Year 11.

The world's gone bloody mad.... the past 30 years has seen a boom in the underclass; all paid for by our clever Government(s). In my area, we now have 1500+ new houses being built for the London overspill....

At least my job will be safe.... lol

You would think it was paramount but unfortunately, it's not. Many of the kids I deal with at work have a Child Protection issue.... yet the authorities are too scared of offending anyone to do anything about it. I have made several CP referrals myself but nothing happens. All they seem to do is shuffle paper and nod a lot until the kid reaches 16.... by which time they're on their own anyway.

On a slightly different note, one of my kids at work (teenager) shits his pants uncontrollably.... yet he still has to be in class, despite hygiene issues. Yet staff can't wear flip flops at work for H&S reasons. Fecking ridiculous...

                                Re: New neighbours from Hell!

At the risk of sounding a bit right wing all I can say is "I blame the parents". These brats become brats because their parents have brattish behaviour which gets imitated since it seems the norm at home

When I found Class A drugs in my daughter's bedroom I took them straight to my local nick and gave the police her mobile number (she had run away from home at the time). They made one call which scared the pants off her and she came straight home. No more drugs in the house after that.

A friend of hers was arrested with vast quantities of drugs at Glastonbury, but only got a slap on the wrist at court when she pleaded "social distribution" not dealing So it seems it's ok to take drugs and give this evil stuff to other people so long as you don't charge any money for them. I'd have sent her to prison till she got her head sorted.

I agree with you that the "authorities" seem to have no authority these days.
