Gas supplier and credit meter

Have just changed from oil to gas and was going to switch to a supplier offering better rates but now understand they will do a credit check. As my credit is extremely poor what options do I have - if any? The gas was just installed so I'm with the default supplier who has yet to contact me so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Your help would be appreciated.
