About six years, my cholesterol level has always been close to 4, but I had an infection that caused damage to my heart, so they are a safeguard for me.

I am a firm believer that cholesterol can be lowered with change of diet and exercise .
Blimey your poor dad. Unfortunately it was the same with my dad with the heart attacks, and heart disease is hereditary in our family.
I assumed because my reading did come down a little on the fastings then it would just be a matter of keeping a close eye on it, but she said because of the matter being hereditary not to take any chances.

As I also have low kidney function as well, I'm in a vicious circle really lol x

Yes of course, so the meds in your case are permanent then?

My doc put the meds on repeat for me, but to be reviewed after each blood fastings (3 monthly intervals).

See what is said tomorrow though, she may say about sticking these out a bit longer :-/ x

I had a medical a month ago and my blood pressure was perfect, i have lost over a stone in weight and i eat only fresh food i don't eat anything that has additives colours or preservatives, i don't smoke and haven't drunk alcohol for 10 years, the result showed that there was only a 4% chance of heart attack or stroke .

My doctor told me that my dad's heart attacks which resulted in bypass is a lifestyle disease and not hereditary . I was also scared about the parkinson's and was told it is not hereditary. I came out of the doctors feeling like a new woman .

You like me then, don't smoke or drink, I gave up drinking about 19 years ago, however, had the odd wine with mostly lemonade on celebrations, I did used to smoke but gave that up before losing my dad 2 years ago, then was naughty coz of my nerves with losing dad after the first few weeks, then stopped again.

My weight varies between 9 to just under 9 and a half stone, was told for my height at 5'5 that was just right.
I used to be a fitness freak with advanced aerobics and that suddenly stopped to just basic exercise now, so I expect that will make an impact to my body, changes etc.

With my dad, as he had a listed history of med conditions, stokes, heart condition, cancer, asthma, however he did also have emphysema from working at the coal pits, so that was due to working there with the lung disease, he was then diagnosed with dementia at the age of 60, lost him at 69, they were checking him for parkinson's as well, but then we lost him to double pneumonia.

                  Yes it's very scary.

I was actually given a cholesterol diet sheet a long time ago, followed it but in my case it didnt seem to bring it down to what they wanted it to be.

Is that well controlled now hun?

I will have a word tomorrow anyway, I do feel a bit naughty for leaving the statin out tonight, but so fed up of waking to headachy legs lol. This has never happened to me before, it's a different sort of ache to usual body aches.

She did say though, if I felt I was suffering with any side affects and concerned to stop taking it and see her immediately. x

                      Re: Simvastatins (40MG) side affects.

I'm on Simvastatin 40 mg , I have no obvious side effects, but most of the time I feel fairly crap anyway because I'm still trying to get my bloodsuger/insulin under control.

From what I can gather though, statins on the whole do more good than harm.

Thank you mgfboy, that is actually reassuring, I think maybe I may just be a little paranoid, we all hate taking meds, and I'm sure our doc's know what they are prescribing for us, it's just that seeing my prescription list adding up scares me, since dad was on pages of them when he was still here.

Hope your blood sugar levels are kept under control. x

Hopefully it will get under control, I know what you mean about meds though, I now have to inject 4 times a day and take 4 different tablets!!!

Fingers crossed for you then. That is a lot!
One of my brother's who is severely autistic, his care staff have to try to keep his under control with injections and tabs, it's a lot to deal with I know that, good luck. x

If this helps any I was diagnosed with high cholesterol 7 years ago and have been on 40mg Simvastatin ever since. I had muscle aches to start with, until I was told by a friend that they should be taken before bedtime. It would seem they're meant to work overnight and I'd been taking them in the morning! Apart from that I've had no probs. Might just be a case of your body adjusting to them.

I agree with others that they do more good than harm as my initial count of 9.3 has come down to below 6.
