Morning all!
I need a little bit of advice please clever folks!
I am starting work at a new venue on December the 1st. A friend who rents a shop and runs it solo as a tattoo parlour has agreed to me renting one of the rooms to run my body piercing business. Which is lovely and I can't wait to start (already setting my studio up) in a weeks time.
Something cropped up yesterday * which wasn't a huge deal but after an hour or so of mulling it over with my Husband it occurred to me that myself and my friend don't have a contract at all.
In essence he could, in a months time, turn around and say "This isn't working, you need to leave"... Now I have ploughed a LOT of money into setting up as my own boss, the hiring of the sterilising machine alone was on a 36 months contract. On the flip side I could also up and walk out and leave him high and dry. What we both need is a guarantee that we get a few weeks to find a new piercer / find new premises if you catch my drift?
What I am after is if anyone knows where I could find a contract to print out and adapt so that we are BOTH covered. Something that outlines the amount of rent agreed, what it covers and how much notice we each have to give the other party if we want to part ways.
* The event that cropped up yesterday was this; A customer came in to the studio and wanted a piercing, the tattooist tried to get them to book for when I am there but they wanted the piercing done there and then so... instead of saying sorry we cant help you, he called a piercer he knows who lives nearby (and used to work in the salon part time) and got him to come in as he said "I couldn't turn a customer away".
What worries me is what if someone comes in on my day off or when I am on holiday? Will he simply get this local chap to pop in? That wouldn't sit well with me at all, which got me thinking "Oh buttox, we don't have an agreement!"
The reason I am not working there already is that one needs a licence issued by the council and that hasn't come through yet, the licence is for the premises, not the piercer, so when you change venue, you have to re-apply etc etc. I have no idea how the 'other' chap can walk about piercing where he likes as I have no knowledge of a 'mobile' licence for piercers. Not to mention the 'sterility' issues... but that's not my business.
As you can see I've left myself open to possible rubbish... I hope someone on here can help!
