The only way you can do some transactions is with a PC or other device, so everybody needs access. As they are now an everyday tool, the people in Sales and Marketing assume that everyone has one. Has anybody tried to get a hotel deal by knocking on hotel doors recently?

Work does not stop outside 9-5 M-F, and commerce does not either. So iPhones have made themselves into the drug of the masses, a £20pm contract quickly becomes £100 when there are no local hotspots and all calls are non-geographical numbers and companies can keep you hanging on for hours when you are processing everyday requests. Many children and youths are given a phone for safety, whereas it makes them a vulnerable target to thieves and bullies.
