With this, just stop paying and update this with anything they may send you etc....

We need to be blagging this for the moment until we get the CCA's back and know which we can fight UE over

Are you wanting to pay this back? if it's been going since 2005 it may be an idea to look at UE with it, but I dunno much about this firm - they are properly regulated, thats about it - no website or anything (ie they're not a bunch of Triads that will come to the house are they?)

Right, with the above you should be back on track and know where you're going..... best of luck, we're here if you need to de-stress or anything, otherwise just post updates as and when you hear back - and invest in a scanner and some A4 binders to properly document things.

Using a telephone number that belongs to a DCA might be fun

                  Re: New and confused

you'll be fine because they are all a bit thick, it takes a wee while for it all to register, so don't think the phone calls will be too bad right away. Don't worry just don't answer if you don't know who it is.

Bit stressful all this unknown stuff. Just keep doing as i'm told and i'm sure i'll be fine. Off to price up scanners and printers then find a 6yr old to teach me how to use it!

                      Re: New and confused

                      Hi samsmum,
Good to see you are getting there However a couple of tips for you. As your confidence grows you will be able to answer the phone and deal with them. The way is to ask who they are, what they want, do not answer or go through any security questions, tell them everything in writing ONLY and put the phone down. Don't discuss anything else with them at all, they will still be raving as you put the phone down.

Do not allow yourself to be bullied by anyone from now on, DCAs and their ilk have no legal powers whatsoever literally until they own the debt. Their Only weapon against you is your own fear of what they might do, which is NOTHING! of their own volition.

Keep a log of the calls, time, date who called and very brief precis like which account etc. This could prove very useful later should heaven forbid the worst comes to the worst enabling you to use it against them in a court. These paper trails seem a bit OTT at times but be assured they will all come in useful.

The other tip is, as Niddy has suggested I believe, set up a file for each account and keep all paprerework that arrives complete with envelopes stapled to the relevant document, copies of whatever you send out and all received correspondenc marked with the date you actually had it come through the door.

It sounds hell of a lot to do but isn't really and will pay dividends down the line as you have probably already read about.

                      regards
                      Garlok

Only just come across this thread but you've already had excellent advice samsmum.

I too was considering going BR (in fact just waiting for a tax rebate so that I could pay the fee) when I came across Niddy and decided to go the UE route. It is scary at first but it does get easier with time. I'm well over a year into it and I don't regret it for a minute.

Don't worry about any questions you might have. Just post and we'll answer them (as you've already found out.) Good luck
