Ok, against the spirit of the season but I've got to have a rant after returning from the supermarket this morning.
As far as Christmas Lunch is concerned in our household its a slighly 'posher' sunday roast, the rest of our weekly grocery shop remains the same.
What has really pissed me off this morning is how blatant the supermarkets have been in bumping up the prices of what I call 'staple' goods.
Potatos, vegetables, milk and everything else is between 10%-20% more expensive than a week ago. How do I know? Because I still had the receipt from last weeks food shop in my pocket!
A 'normal' beef joint was almost £16 more expensive than it was last week (thats actually an increase of 100%!) - simply because its been shoved in pretty cardboard packaging. Its still '28 day matured' and all the other bollox, just titilated to make it sound extra special when its the same sodding product.
As for adding 50p to a bag of potatos, its just beyond scrooge-like.
I know its all 'supply & demand', market forces, and all that crap but its this sort of behaviour that if just ripping customers off that makes me real angry. People sometimes take the piss when I say things like consumers are almost in a 'war-like' state with the high street chains, but when you see this sort of thing it really just reinforces my view that this is where we're at.
Anyway - rant over!
For those that have some time off - enjoy Christmas with your loved ones and have a good un.
