    Re: Monitor or Graphics card??

    Hi Oscar

I hope your day at work wasn't a stressful one. The easiest way for us to determine the correct model and therefore the mobo and chipset is to find the MSN number. The number Niddy gave 8188 is apparently a German only model and my German is no longer what it was...there for about a year many moons back! So it could be a 8288 but rather than guess can you let us know the MSN...the picture should help you.

the number on the label is 10009764.

Have put battery back, put old card back (cos need display to get into BIOS) and I seem to have an error now. One long beep followed by two very short beeps - And I still have no display.

EDIT - now have BIOS - password removed!

2nd EDIT - also the beep seems to have gone (just had a little fiddle make sure all was seated ok)

Okay so that is the 8188 And apparently (obviously as you have one ) there is a UK version.

Where have you got to now? I checked online and it does not appear to have onboard graphics. You can find every driver you want from here

            Medion Support Portal

Just enter the MSN number and it will take you to the drivers etc for your PC.

Is it still giving errors with the old graphics card?

Not tried booting into windows - just wanted to see if I had been successful with the BIOS password removal.

At least I can access stuff there to enable or disable.

Got it booted up - but obviously VGA as I have deleted the drivers ..... will leave for a little while to see if any errors.

But doesnt alter the fact I obviously need a new card ( and one that is compatible)

Also, prob related to the VGA - screen still has broken vertical lines - evenly spaced in sets of 4

                    Re: Monitor or Graphics card??

I would try booting into safe mode with the old card in place. Visit Driver Sweeper and download it...if you can download?

There could be some residue from the drivers uninstall.

Once this is done you can fit the new card, boot into safe mode and install the new drivers.

Right, installed, no old stuff to remove.

New card in and as before - wont even boot into windows. Doesnt even try to boot.

Screen currently shows the yellow energy star and the green "EPA Pollution Preventer"

As I was typimg, it has started the boot process - but EXTREMELY slowly. I can type quicker than the text is appearing on the screen

                            Re: Monitor or Graphics card??

I suggest the easiest way to work on this is to contact Medion Support. I checked their site and it asks for your MSN number and other basic details.

Ask them if the 8400GS is compatible with your motherboard and/or if you need to flash to the latest BIOS etc.

I am sure it would be quicker and safer for you to get the advice direct from them rather than get some potential incorrect advice from me.

It seems like there must be an issue with the mobo and the graphics card. You could try looking at the BIOS settings in the BIOS - you may have to change the PCI frequency or the VGA setting - that may help but as I said Medion Support should be able to advise.

I am really sorry that we couldn't to the root cause.

Well, it booted into windows, installed the drivers of the CD.

Computer said needed to reboot - so went to start and computer froze up completely - couldnt get into task manager or anything.

Reset the computer and got the error bleep and nothing will load again - not even windows.

Beginning to think I may have an error with the slot more than anything else.

No it will be a compatibility issue between the card and the mobo. Contact Medion Support and get it direct from them.
