    Re: Common Faults website??

The issues are that some of the Ford Diesels, cannot recall from what year, are built in with a DMF, can be a right pain.
Something we wish we did know about before we went for it.

I believe others like Vauxhall, maybe Volvo and more may also be built with them now too.

Costly job if it needs doing

Why not try SAAB, they are as good as any of the German Marks but a damned sight more comfortable. As safe as a Volvo and since GM were involved with them a lot of Vauxhall parts are an exact match.

They are generally fully loaded with all the toys which come as extras on other cars.

Since SAAB no longer exists as such the second hand price has really dropped. You can pick up an 04 - 05 plate petrol with @50K for around 2 grand if you shop around.

I recently saw an 09 diesel manual ex demonstrator for 9K I think it had 10k on the clock.

Even though the top of range ones are insurance group 17. If you fall into the right category you can get fully comp for @£230 per year.

Just a suggestion, not that I'm biased or anything

Saab, they are good cars in my opinion.

My youngest Daniel is crazy about them.

When we had the Scooby car, the in laws were in the back and hubby was taking them somewhere, my son was in the front with hubby, so he had to keep at a reasonable speed, suddenly a Saab overtaken them. Of course hubby didnt like it

I have not heard the end of it, my son finds it so funny, he says to me "you should have seen dad's face mum"

Vauxhall (GM) definitely, SAAB Manuals, and most Modern Marks. SIL's Frontera had problems as well, though I think it was only the late model diesels which had them.

I wish I had checked out the problems with my old Shitshibushi People carrier before I bought it. If I had known about the Valve and Cylinder Head problems them I would not have touched it with a bargepole.

Handy, I can see from pic/avatar you have a nice SAAB, it would make my son's day if you could post up more pics of it (pretty please)?? xx (He's my youngest son with the special needs).

            Thank you.

For my sins Handy, I used to own two Pajeros. Tell me about the problems!

Didn't think of Saab - excellent car and superb value for money. I'd go for a diesel as the petrols are thirsty I think - they are a heavy, solid car.

Not stalking you Handy - just clicked on your Saab thinking it would be a bigger picture and it took me to your profile!

                Re: Common Faults website??

I think we will have to stick to a diesel now.

This is a godsend on the fuel saving to us, I know it would not benefit everyone, depending on how much and how far you travel, but it suits us.

In regards of my older son Jamie, he's not got round to changing his Corsa yet, we managed to get it through the MOT, as hubby done this and done that to get it through, but for a 1.2, it's not made for long distance travelling which he have been doing.
More so since he's been with his girlfriend, she has just given up her car because she no longer wants to drive and now my son is doing all the driving.
Since the last MOT he had on the Corsa back in 2011, from this years MOT, he's done 30K in just a year!

That a fair mileage for a corsa in 12 months!!

As soon as I get rid of the go kart, I am on the lookout for summat cheap and cheerful (at least till I find a job)

Not That Thirsty when driven right. As I said earlier I can get @ 38 on a run. I just take it steady and use Cruise Control on the M Ways when I can.

If I use the S (Sports button, I call it the suicide switch ) on the Gear selector I can get 0 - 60 in 6.5 seconds, mind you when I use that I can hear the gurgle as the petrol goes down the drain. Useful though if you need to do a bit of fast overtaking or scare the Mother in Law.

                    Regards, Handy

It's hit just over 96K now, it was about 33K something like that when he first had the car almost 4 years ago.

And a new water pump went in 5 weeks, before that the radiator, and not long ago the coil pack, it's a 2003 year, so given the year I suppose it's about the norm, but in a matter of 2 weeks, 4 things went wrong, even the linkage to the wipers stopped working as he was on the way to London.

In regards of the water pump, we did have the receipt, but the car is being driven to the ground now, must go in my opinion lol.

Some of this happened after the MOT.

                          Well here it is.
Number plate painted out for good reasons. Looks and Drives like Night Rider. Fully Loaded including factory fitted Sat Nav and Bluetooth. I really wanted an estate but this was such a bargain.

It has been an insurance Cat D which means that it has been paid out by an insurance company then sold on as a damaged repairable. It needed 2 doors and some paint. So it stands me at 1,400. You must inform your insurance company even though it will be on the insurance register. I had no problems what so ever, although If I ever have a bump they might not be so good but as my last car was quickly expiring it's a risk I thought worth taking.

Fords rang me earlier, to ask for permission to take out the gear box.

Looks like they have to do this anyway to make sure they deal with the right problem.
They said it could take up to 5 hours, the labour for that without the rest of it is that of about £210, so I reckons on top of my head (not including bro in law staff discount) £1.200 Oh that's if it is that of the flywheel etc.

Interesting site, and was checking the list of models with known Dual Mass Flywheel problems. This will also give a clue to what car we should have next lol.
