    Re: Common Faults website??

Hang on a mo folks @ 12 years ago I had a VW Passat estate as a company car. Now I'm not lead footed and I get 250 miles to £20 from my 2.3 250bhp saloon. The VW was a diesel and I used to regularly get @ 60 mpg.

As the Skoda is basically a WV I would not be surprised with the new technology driven well you could get @ 70 - 80 mpg. 88 is perhaps pushing it a bit.

As I said it's all in the driving Lady Hooray averages 24 in her SAAB Hot Aero. When I drive and set the trip computer I get 40.

    Regards all, Handy

BTW never had a speeding ticket, but I don't hang around. ooops touch wood

Tip - if you want to increase your fuel economy on the motorway/A road, drive on a light throttle at exactly 56mph, avoid accelerating/decelerating wherever possible.

Someone I know used to drive at approx 70 - 75mph to work on the motorway, he went down to 56 and saved £35 per week in fuel costs, he timed the runs and there was only about 5-10 mins difference in arrival time.

I had to do a fuel consumption test for a customer and with a measured amount of fuel I managed an average of 82mpg out of a 1200cc petrol hatchback staying at exactly 56mph. Admittedly the car was about 6 months old, but even an old car will still return good mpg if driven correctly.

^^^^^ When you ask her what gear she drives in does she describe what she's wearing

Reminds me of the car I bought that was advertised as one careful Lady owner, Must had been Lady Beodicia.

Volkswagen, Skoda, Hyandai, Kia (just on the warranty) etc.

Nothing French, Nothing GM, Nothing Italian. Can you guess which cars I have had?!!

                        Good call

I think the Hyundai warranty is slightly better than the Kia one though, great coverage up to 5 years .

Don't the Jags have a Ford engine?

                            Might put Di off!

German good - VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda all the same car basically. Porsche too! Mercs not as good as they were - buy a good old one.

                            Japanese reliable but boring.

Italian unreliable but great fun on the odd journey they don't break down.

French comfortable, good for carrying garlic.

If I could ever afford to buy a sensible new car again, it would be one of the German ones mentioned above, but I'd buy an old banger, join a breakdown club and blow the money on sun, sangria and se....... Senorita BBoo!

the question is how can i reduce £50 a week driving to and from work.

Its urban roads, cant do motorways to work. On a good day the road is clear enough to do 40mph and takes around 45 minutes to travel.

My bmw has 6 speed gear box, so at that speed i find it very rare to get in to 6th gear, slight breaking from the guy in front and im back in 4th lol.

I make it my mission everyday to stay in 6th as long as possible.

Ours are built with a Volvo engine

I don't know much about cars, but we do benefit from the 6 speed, as we do tend to use it on our journey's.
