Re: My dad is really ill

I will ask about the toilet seat washer as my mum can't do much on her own - the blood tests were taken at home on Wednesday results are back and the doctor isn't happy with them so my dad has to go at 4 today .

It's really difficult isn't it when our parents are getting old and frail. Hugs to both of you xx

I wish him luck. I think it's the crp levels that show infection. My mum also has kidney and heart failure. PM me if you need any advice. I went through this two years ago. We now have a PA using direct payments. She is a godsend! I'm trying to get her hours increased.

my mums doctor visits at home or does a telephone consultation.

thank you JLC - my dad has had an infection but they can't find out where - he has had 7 tablets taken off him and one of those is the statin - I am very pleased about this because I have heard personal experiences with statins and the side effects . Hopefully he will start to improve .

I hope your mum is doing okay she sounds like she is receiving good care and rightly so .

Re: My dad is really ill

We have reduced my mums Parkinson's tablets this year. It's quite common to do this.

Im glad your dad is getting more help. Make sure he gets everything he is entitled to!

Re: My dad is really ill

I will do- just been to the chemist with the Navigo to try and sort his medication out , the chemist that did the prescription is closed now so we had to ask another chemist to identify what tablets he is to take but they won't take the responsibility its ridiculous so now I am trying to contact my brother who is off this week but doesn't want to be disturbed lol to phone my mum and talk to Navigo but he isn't answering his phone .

The chemist said ' oh I've never heard of a doctor stopping meds just like this i dont think its right' well sorry but we trust the GP who stopped them and he had his reasons and wouldn't have just stopped them - my dads blood is unstable in some way so the GP is trying to clear it i guess - I don't know I'm just guessing .

Hopefully someone will have the authority to say which medication he is to keep taking - it's ridiculous but also important .

The doctor surgery should be able to fax a letter to the pharmacist informing them of the changes. I have a brilliant pharmacist and when I tell him about changes to my mums tablets, he gets in touch with the doctor (changes are normally made by the Parkinson's specialist) and ensures they are made as soon as possible.

The Parkinsons meds haven't been changed its others for blood pressure cholesterol and the surgery is closed on a Saturday so can't ask them to fax the information . The chemist suggested a walk in centre as they have access to patients health so not sure what's happening now .

Re: My dad is really ill

he has gone into a care home this morning for a week - he falls all the time now - fell this morning at 4 am had the ambulance . We think he might be going in permanently but seeing how his blood pressure settles but that's not the only problem he is wondering around all the time in and out of the chair to other rooms , the good news is that he has eaten a full meal today fish and chips and he hasn't eaten properly for a few weeks .

Its heartbreaking we promised him we wouldn't send him away and he was crying all night telling my mum please please don't send me away . The care home is beautiful and new build he has his own room with TV DVD Radio , there is a mat on the floor with a sensor so when he steps foot on it the carers are there so he doesn't fall .

We can sleep easy knowing he is in good care but our hearts are broken

thank you for asking means a lot xx

Re: My dad is really ill

Very sad to hear this, but glad he's in a good place. I am dreading the time that I have to make a decision for my mum to go in a care home. I'm trying to get some extra adaptions and increase my mums carers time. Big fight to get both though. I kinda know what you're going through xx

As an add, maybe they need to check his cognitive function. My mum was prescribed a patch called Alzest. It's only prescribed by the Parkinson's specialist and is very expensive apparently xx

JLC thank you i will look into the patch - it is a strange feeling we are relaxed he's in good care but at the same time we feel so guilty and hate leaving him - for me as his only daughter i cry because he used to be such a big strong man my dad my hero now he is frail and can't do much for himself - never thought it would come to this my lovely dad my hero i love him so much he was always so strong and made me feel safe - now i have to watch him deteriorate like this . xx

Re: My dad is really ill

I felt guilty when my mum went into hospital and the rehab (about six weeks). As long as it's what is best for him, then there should be no guilt. I have seen lots of my mums friends who's husband has had Parkinson's and they end up resenting having to care for them. Sometimes the most difficult decision is the best in the long run. My dad died when I was 17, so can't even imagine what you are going through. Let me know how it all goes, don't feel guilty.
