Back about a year ago, our surgery nurse had permission from our GP to give the dabber called Zineryt 30ml applied twice daily, it seemed to work for a time but then stopped working as even more Acne appeared.

So 6 months ago, we spoke to our nurse at the surgery and she then had permission to prescribe a Antibiotic called: Erythromycin 250 MG to take one in the morning and one at night.
Seemed to help the first 3 months, but then it flared up once again.

So since then, we decided to see our GP direct instead of going to the nurse as my son has been really down about this, and of course as he has special needs as well, this had made his life more difficult.

My son was taken off the above antibiotic and then prescribed Tetralysal 300MG Hard Capsules, to take one daily.
And alongside this: A steroid cream called (Elecon) Momestasone 30g 0.1% to be applied/spread thinly daily.

Now to me these products do seem to be working, and we are due to see his GP over the coming week for a check up, however my son is very impatient and cannot see the improvement, the only area that I can see where it's redder is his forehead, but I think more time needs to be given on these meds, and yet my son thinks his GP will provide a higher dose because he is not happy.
I have a feeling that the doctor will keep him on these for a bit longer, but he did say if he wasn't happy when he sees him at this next appoinment it maybe a case of my son seeing a skin specialist to have blood tests and to try something different, but he did also say it's unlikely it will come to this.

But my concern is, with the steroid cream, this cannot be taken forever and nor can the tablets really, but has anyone any experience of their own of themselves or their children going through this please?

Even my son have been doing his own research on acne medicines and he said he was going to ask the GP about it, but I think he needs a little more time before he seems more improvement on the stuff he's has to take now in my opinion, I know its his body but I am concerned of all the different medicines, he is also asthmatic.
The one he did fine online was one called Accutane, and does anyone have any experience of this medication?

    Thank you folks.
    A concerned mummy di30

my youngest suffered terrible and we got him to wash his face in bicarbonate of soda and it cleared it up .
google it to find the recipe its cheap and will clear it up

Just an update for anyone. My son still uses Duac and oxytet, but the biggest difference seemed to be covering his pillow with a towel which is changed every couple of days! His skin is the clearest that it has been for about 5 years.

All went well today at the app.

And they did ask med questions, check face and back, (did not have to strip off).

For 3 months he has to take Lymcycline 408mg, then goes back, but they have given this form for him to get his bloods done, cholesterol etc, by our own GP surgery, so that they will know if Daniel will be suited to Accutane, because they suggested this may possibly be the next step from here if no improvement.

However, Daniel was actually prescribed the same of the first one stated above, by our own GP, but in my opinion, did not then give them a chance, so fingers crossed.

He's asking now if he will have to strip off? lol

His back is clear as a baby's bum, and his face is looking great now too, I am wondering if we will be wasting the dermotologist time?

I suppose it will be up to the dermo to say from here, I'm no expert so will see what happens when we see him tomorrow.

Have to take Daniel to his first Derm appointment tomorrow morning, at our local county hospital, as his GP referred him, been a long wait, but personally I think his skin has improved in that time, but he said he still wants to go, because he still comes out with breakouts.

I explained this happens, but he is adamant of still wanting to go.

Can anyone who knows explain what to expect at the first appointment please?
I know they will want to take details down of the family history/medications etc.

    Cheers.

No use, alas, as they don't have the retinopathy scanning equipment. The optician near the podiatry clinic does, though, so I'll book an appointment there to coincide with my next foot check-up.

Eyeglasses with the conventional "hockey tips" give me a severe headache in about half an hour of putting them on, although sunglasses rarely did. Consequently, I took to wearing a monocle over my right (dominant) eye - which seems to suit the knee-breeches I customarily wear in summer.
