As we've talked about before - don't beat yourself up about it. You did what you thought was best at the time, and you admirably continued making payments because you wanted to do the 'right thing'. Unfortunately these companies are parasites who take advantage of this.

You're now drawing a line in the sand and have made massive progress already in getting things sorted and dealing with this bag of snakes, and as with any bag of snakes it takes a little time to lay them out straight.

I could write a book on this subject with regard to payday loans. If you look through the forum, and my comments on how this 'industry' works you will soon get an understanding of how its allowed to continue. However if the current situation continues a large proportion of the country (who are starting to fall for the slick marketing and seeing PDL companies as 'mainstream') will be unable to borrow from high street lenders (as PDL's on CRA files are seen as an indication of financial stress, whether they were repaid impeccably or not).

This will allow the PDL companies to step up and start offering other products to a market they have effectively created themselves. I constantly warn it will not be long before you see companies like Wonga offering mortgages..........

Good news is Cecilia hasn't paid a penny since finding AAD

Trouble with The Money Shop, and the difficulty it presents Cecilia, my experience of them is that if the cheque cashing service has been used, chances are there will have been no CCA agreement signed, so challenging agreements, lack of affordability assessments, providing pre-contract information etc is much more difficult.

This is one of the reasons I ask people to calculate how much interest has already been paid to a creditor. Not only does it give a timely wake up call but it usually gives huge leverage on another angle, which is whether the creditor falls foul of the Unfair Relationship Provisions of the CCA.

I don't think theres any doubt that this could be used against The Money Shop in Cecilias case, however I've not worried about them much in the context of Cecilas overall 'PDL portfolio' as they have been the least aggressive which suits the goal of getting the account to being stature barred.

Why are you paying them? If you've no house you've no asset so just move and go off the radar...! (ie hide )It's not a mortgage shortfall so standard 6yrs time limits to SB apply..!

OH MY WORD... You've paid £17k in interest only and still owe the original debt!?

Why is this horrendous ritual permitted to carry on!!!!! The UK government have kittens over Indian children of 9+ who work for 10p a week to pay off loans taken out by their families... yet here we are with someone who owes under £800 and has paid back £17k???

What the total f*ck?? Or have I got the whole wrong end of the debt stick here?

Mind you, I worked out that I have paid around £25k for a £15k loan that I STILL owe £15k for... I feel SO stupid to agreeing to the terms.. to be honest I just wanted the money and didn't read anything properly... *cries*

    Hi Cecilia

I would send the telephone harassment letter - lets them know you're not going to be a pushover and also gives you some protection and possibility of a counter-claim should they risk ignoring your request and continue calling you by phone.

    Best

It is worth sending just to establish the position that you've requested they not call you.

If it went to VM then really they shouldn't have left a message unless they can be certain that only you have access to the facility. What was the message they left?
