At that time CAG were helpful and showed me the way, I was really pleased to find out I could do it all myself, up to that point I'd always thought UE was something that had to be handled by specialists (such as CMCs) who would know all the technicalities and legal issues. This forum didn't exist when I sent out my CCA requests! I'm glad it's here now!

Over the past year or so CAG seem to have totally lost the way, offering rather inconsistent advice and telling people "it's no longer possible to get out of paying due to paperwork errors" which, at least in my experience, it's NOT TRUE!

I'm aware there are people out there (such as Garlok) who received very poor advice from that site even years ago, I guess the inconsistencies have always been there.

It's nice to have a site like this where everyone sticks together and works towards the same goals , it's really disgraceful that other forums that claim to help the consumer should focus more on rivalries between forums rather than working together to help people.
Yes I noticed that when I was looking on CAG that someone would ask for advice and get given totally opposite advice from different posters, who then argued amongst themselves. Some appeared to get lots of help and others hardly any response. But the general message seemed to be stop trying to avoid paying and either set up a payment plan or offer a full and final. I did get an impression that some of the 'advice givers' were actually dca's themselves..... or course this probably wssnt the case but its what it looked like.

Thanks for having a look Niddy, I had a feeling this one might be as its such a big loan. I did wonder though as I couldnt find the cooling off thing on it but maybe you dont get them on a loan.

I will sit it out and see what happens then and set up a payment plan when they get stroppy, the default for this drops off my credit file this month (or should do, however another default should have dropped off in October and its still showing!) so the only thing i need to avoid is a ccj. When worst comes to worst and they want a payment plan, can I offer them a low one or are they gonna want stupid money? (I was paying them £47 a month on the dmp)

    Re: Pookies UE Diary

I suppose the worries I had with CAG in the early days sprang from my own desire to know in depth what was going on. I started there about the beginning of 2009, and followed through for quite a long time. The more I delved into solving our own problems the more I realised that contradiction, outright falsehoods, and worst of all a party line were being imposed upon the members. Some of whom were ending up in worse trouble than when they started, a typical DMP/IVA et al company problem. From the plethora of phone calls we were getting at that time from CMCs cold calling with something that was too good to be true led me to start digging and digging deep, we had no choice at the time. That bit of knowledge gained told me all I needed to know about what was really happening there.

Now we have, in AAD, a place we can all come, there is only one party line as I see it here and that is to kick as much arse as is pocssible on behalf of our members and users.

I think Pooks, the owner of this thread would agree as well, as they have come a long way from day one of joining us.

I didn't search for enforceability either. Initially I was looking for template letters to offer settlements, found the CAG site .. wasn't impressed. Then found the MSE site and saw old posts from Niddy. Think I then googled something and put Never in Doubt on the end of the search and found a post on this site!

Everyone has been very helpful and for the first time I don't feel alone with my debt cloud. Massive thank you to all!!

I agree mate, but when I started out I would have never thought of putting UE in my search engine and wonder if others who are new also wouldn't think. They like me would put CCA because of the news media attention it once received or consumer rights something like that.

However as you have said before, AAD provides a quality of service that the others cannot achieve and you would rather have 10 people really in need that we can help than 100 a day most of whom would be out to cause trouble.

This won't always be the case, it's purely that most internet users click the top link, so end up at CAG and also they're the oldest forum so they have the archive of things....

If you search Google for unenforceability then you'll see things sway more this end (we're third in the list - albeit underneath MSE & CAG) but you'll see we are above LB in less than a year of being here

    hey Pooks, like the avatar!

Sadly Niddy is right, CAG has gone down hill fast and you probably have read our "have you been banned from CAG" thread. Unfortunately an awful lot of the other forums have gone the same route.

It is inevitable in my view that attempts will be made by the financial sector and their parasitic hangers-on to infiltrate the forums which offer sensible support like this one and make people aware of their rights under the law. Some of course have succumbed as well to the lure of thirty pieces of silver crossing their grubby palms.

Niddy and the senior mods here weed 'em all out pretty quick before they get a chance to start problems. It is unfortunate indeed that should you enter anything like "Consumer Credit Act" in your search engine, CAG appears first and you need to read down a long list to find the other sites.

Wait till they get stroppy then we'll sort the offer thing out for you - don't do anything without letting me know as we'll get this sorted at the best rate possible

It's 6 years from October now so your debts will be SB around November 2017
