Absolutely ! Thats just a 'please give some money' letter in the hope that you DO see it as a Legit offer rather than a last ditch attempt made when they have run out of ammo !

Apologies for the late updates on this one. I was travelling for work last week so have come home to a load of letters!

So a few updates on this one, Amex have transferred my account to 'UCA' whose letter is as follows:

    Dear SnV

Out client, American Express, has asked us to get in touch with you to try to avoid unnecessary formal proceedings that unfortunately could be brought against you for non-payment of your account.

Due to the time that has already elapsed the most important thing you should do is to call on receipt of this letter and register your intention to resolve this matter on a voluntary basis. You have our assurance that on receipt of this call we will suspend any further action for a period of time necessary to assess your situation and implement a reasonable repayment plan to bring the matter to a close.

Please call the number below and talk through with one of our account representatives the issues that you have to date to prevent you from paying the balance above.

We will endeavor to help you and explore the many options that are still available to you, some of which you may currently be unaware of.
