How do people here manage there laptop batteries for maximum lifespan, just I have read so much conflicting info on the subject re charging some so it is ok to keep it charged up whilst others say it is better to discharge and recharge.

At the moment I am discharging and recharging once it gets down to 6%

    What does your manual say?

    One for last lappy says.

At least once a month, disconnect the computer from a power source
and operate it on battery power until the battery pack fully discharges.
    Then obviously charge fully.

Even thought most laptop manufatuers will say, to fully discharge the batteries at least once a month will help to increase the lifespan I have to personally somewhat disagree, or rather add further info to that statement.

The batteries most laptops have, are basically, parallel Li-On batteries (lithium). While discharging them fully before re charging will help them to keep their charge for longer, the truth is, all Li-On batteries have a max charging cycle.

That means, that after x amount of charges, they will start to degrade, which means, they don't hold their full charge, or they don't hold it for a full length of time.

You may notice, a shiny new lappy, sometimes has 4 hours of use and over the months, that decreases to around 2 hours.

Truth is, most laptop batteries will have a max of around 2000 charging cycles before they start to degrade, so its always wise to replace them long before they don't work at all.
