Re: Tunisia and cancelling holiday just booked

I've been to Tunisia. The resorts all have security guards patrolling the beaches, your escorted from airport to coach and dropped right outside complex. Providing you stay on site you were safe. I can only imagine security will be heightened now however personally I can't see how that would stop another attack. With all that's going on right now. I'd stay clear of any Arab countries. Not because of the locals but because of what could happen. Let's not forget resent past has seen rioting in Tunisia also, on a massive scale.

My son has booked for next May so i don't think the travel agents will pull their holidays for that long but i am praying they will because i don't want him to go . It's sick this because they haven't' had a holiday since 2009 and they were really excited about finally booking and then the very next day this terror attack happened. He isn't doing anything about it at the moment and said he isn't cancelling unless the travel agents recommend it .

Can he get his deposit back he paid it on his credit card ?
Check the contract's Ts & Cs.

Since the trip is almost a year away he may be able to cancel it with only a small admin fee of around £25 depending on the operator's cancellation policy. A lot will depend on whether it's a packaged holiday or whether the flight and hotel were booked separately by an agent.

I should have asked you whether your son took out travel insurance at the time of the booking, and if so does it specifically have terrorism cover?

Here's a list of the policy providers which do, and the ones which don't.

If he's hell bent on going there next year at least he will have cover in the event of a Red Alert situation >

Sorry but our outlook on this is if you pull out of going then the terrorists have won,

to stop going where you want is giving in, yes we are nutters but ,we are also British, stiff upper lip, what ho !!

Re: Tunisia and cancelling holiday just booked

Try not to worry, who knows what will have happened in the world by next May! There is so much going on with ISIS that will probably have been some sort of military intervention by the west.
The only way that the terrorists will believe they have won is when they have eradicated all other beliefs and freedom and imposed their way of life on the world. They are not fighting for Islam, just their own corruption of it. Once they have North African beaches they will try to gain control of France and Spain and on it will go.

Nowhere can be totally secure be it on a holiday beach or walking through your local shopping mall...but no way can the civilised world allow these radicals to have decent people running scared, the nazi's tried it (twice) and we survived, have we changed these days do we not want a safe world for our children, and our childrens children to grow up in....sooner resorces are made available for military intervention the better...

After seeing the armed horse back riders on the beach and the added security i would feel safe now but i still reckon i would be sunbathing with one eye open .

Looks like Tunisia is definitely now off anyones holiday destination plans with the foreign office advising only urgent travel there now, looks like they may have intelligence suggesting further attacks are likely ...

Bare in mind the risk of attack is no higher than here in the UK. However I guess the question is where would you rather be in the event of one.
