    Re: Kidney stones

Yes I have (at least doctors were 90% sure), and not to scare you but it was the most painful thing I can ever remember.

Saying that, it was 10 or so years ago and I've never had a recurrence and any X-ray is clear, so just because you have one once, it doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be an ongoing problem.

Di. My brother had one last year. It was shattered by 'shock wave' treatment which he had under a local anaesthetic in an afternoon and he peed out the fragments over the following week. He never felt a thing. This was in Oz but it's available on the NHS too

Never listen to men who tell you something is more painful than childbirth how on earth would they know

Can't comment on that, but it involved writhing around in excruciating agony to the extent that I was sweating buckets and could literally not get/stand up as I would go dizzy or pass out if I did, then maybe that is comparable. Who knows.

EDIT: That was in a case where whatever stone there was passes naturally without intervention. if you are lucky enough to have it broken up to do so, then would be much less painful or even not at all.

Well since you put it like that, if I ever get a kidney stone I'm going to insist on an epidural

i had a blockage in my gall bladder and i can honestly say it was worse than giving birth and i have done that twice. I went to the doctors and was waiting to be seen when the pain came again as it did in spasms , i was rolling on the floor and sweating buckets , the doctor saw me straight away as i was so ill. I know this isn't the same as kidney stones but the pain is so shocking , mine was cleared through with medication but i was in bed for a week until it cleared , never had it since but i don't drink cow's milk or eat yogurts as this is what caused the blockage so it might be worth considering changing your milk .

                    Re: Kidney stones

Thank you all, you've all been so very helpful.lol!!!

Both my child-births were not easy and had complications, even throughout the 9 months of the pregnancies.....

                    Sounds VERY painful though!!!!

Reason I am asking was because every now and then I get flankish pains, this can be in both sides around the hips and kidney areas, also cramp in the belly, it comes and goes and feels sort of menstrual (the females will know what i mean lol)...

Now, and also posted on my other thread, I am having kidney issues as my function is decreasing.
At the moment my Dr thinks it maybe down to long term high blood pressure (yet it's been well controlled) and after 3 to 4 decreased renal blood results has diagnosed me with Chronic kidney disease (CKD) currently at stage 3.
(But my BP in my opinion is well controlled)! Although I been on BP meds since 2002, surely any kidney issues if blood pressure related would have been picked up way before now.

I am referred to a kidney specialist called a Nephrologist and appointment is brought forward by a few months, due to see him at the end of next month for further tests.

I was practically crawling on my hands and knees the other day, was urinating a little more, expected a lot to come out but it wasnt that much.

Yet today I feel fine again

                    Thanks for your input folks

                      Re: Kidney stones

Pain from mine was quite localised as it passed (although slowly moved), so from my experience that doesn't sound like it. Then again, I had what must be a one off passing of a stone, so if you have something a bit more maybe it would be more like your symptoms?

I would not like to say. 2nd guessing symptoms on internet forums is rarely a good idea.

                        Hi Di,
I haven't had renal colic but I've nursed those with it and the pain from passing a stone can vary from mild to excruciating (especially for men) depending on the size of the stone. Smaller ones can be passed with no pain at all.
Diagnosis is fairly easy with scans or xrays, and it's something that can be treated by various methods depending on the size and type of stones.

So your pain may be related but if it gets as bad as that again you need to tell your doctor as they may bring the appointment forward even more. xxx

                          Hi folks

I just posted on my other thread as well about my first neph app that was today.
He is going to order some scans, as they found blood in my water (never had that before) thankfully no protein in water though, but he said the scans would be to check for kidney stones, blockages, cysts etc.

For you folks that had kidney stones, would I also have other symptoms as well as invisible blood in my water?
I do have the odd flank pain but its not constantly or not everyday, it could be weeks of gaps.

                          Thank you x
