Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
I will start gathering some info soon on this as it looks like they are using what they already have but i can add further comments if i wish to, as this was last week, I will try to make some points by later today or tomorrow to send.
In my point of view my house insurance i chosen was to cover for everything i wanted covered, valuables, structure etc.....
Now at the end of 2007 I also opted to take out Swalec cover, called Gold Shield, to cover heating, plumbing etc, okay I did not have this cover at the time Lloyds upgraded our account but my point is that if the bank said we wanted the cover to take out the account with them, then why would we have taken out the cover with Swalec a bit later on. We did not know anything about the home emergency cover, as this was never discussed, as said why take out another separate cover later on then if this is the case and pay out more costs?

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
Just thought I would add some info here what I found online, but its probably updated, the home emergency cover does not include lots of other stuff really but will add this here to refer back to it if needed.
Home Emergency Cover
I found a helpful link on www.lloydsbank.com
Hi, I found this on the Lloyds Bank site and wanted to share it with you: [PAGE_TITLE] [PAGE_URL
Home Emergency Cover can help set your mind at rest by covering the cost of emergency repairs. It’s a perfect complement to your home insurance. This insurance is underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc.
Add Home Emergency cover for just £4.15 a month - that’s less than 14p a day.
What does Home Emergency Cover include?Icon
Covers up to £1000 per emergency for:
- Failure or damage to plumbing and drainage
- Failure of electricity supply within your home
- Repairs necessary repairs to external doors, external windows and external locks to make your home safe or secure
- Loss of heating or hot water due to failure or breakdown of main heating system
- Repairs to make the roof of your home watertight and prevent further damage
To be covered the emergencies have to:
- make the home unsafe or insecure for you and your family; or
- cause damage to the home or its contents; or
- result in the home losing its main source of heating, lighting or water.
What it doesn’t cover
Home Emergency Cover isn’t a service or maintenance policy, so it won’t cover routine home services or domestic appliance breakdowns. Terms, conditions and exclusions apply to this policy. For new Home Emergency Cover policies taken out from the 23rd September 2013 or if you have renewed your policy after this date see the current policy booklet for further details.
For all other Home Emergency Cover policies, see the previous policy booklet.

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
*** Don't formally respond as yet as I'll assist. We must mention that it wasn't more cost effective based on the homecare cover alone because..... (We'll find reasons)!

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
Home emergency if added to a household policy is around £50-£100 tops. The fee of the monthly account would be treble this assuming a base fee of £15.
I think you need to prove / establish dual links on this for certain. For now reply to the email & say you'll come back to him/her in a few days as you'll seek documents.

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
Now for my gas/electrical stuff i have Swalec Gold Sheild cover, and they come out immediately for emergencies, however, i dont think this was taken out until later on but not long after, but my point is if I had known about the emergency cover that lloyds said that is why we upgraded then we certainly would not have taken out this swalec emergency cover! Duh!!!
Yes we also have a separate cover insurance to the house insurance but my house and buildings insurance was relevant to us, but they still deal with lots of stuff even if its not an home emergency cover!!
Now it looks like they are trying to say the premier account cover was more cost effective???

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
Okey not sure how to make this out to be honest, what do you think of the email below received, as I asked when i sent the link in last week if the link would be okay as we never had details here of the booklet, remember the cover we were with at the time was with Aviva insurance when they upgraded the account in May 2007, it wasnt until Oct 2007 we changed the cover because of the mortgage.
Take a read and please let me know thanks, as we are able to comment further on this if we wish.
Dear Mr and Mrs
Thank you for your emails and prompt response.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding, I have had some issues accessing my email in recent days.
I was able to access the link you provided, thank you for doing so.
As previously discussed, Lloyds has indicated that the Home Emergency cover provided under the account motivated you to upgrade. I had requested copies of the policy documentation from your home insurance to compare this with the Home Emergency cover to verify whether they covered the same things. However, the documents on the Lloyds website show that the home insurance policy covers buildings and contents and that a further premium is payable for home emergency cover.
It is likely therefore that it would have been more cost effective to take use the Home Emergency cover and other benefits of the account than to pay an additional premium. In reaching a decision, the ombudsman will have to make a decision on the basis of the available facts and where this is insufficient, on the balance of probabilities.
Please do feel free to respond to this. As per usual, any information you send will be added to the file so that the ombudsman can review this.
Yours sincerely

Re: Not too good news with my packaged reclaim/FOS
Was having a nose online of the benefits of the home emergency cover of the Premier Account which includes for example:
What’s covered?
Things that are typically covered (classed as an emergency):
- A blocked or overflowing drain.
- All your electrics tripping in your home so you’re continually resetting the fuse board to maintain the electrical supply.
- Cracked or smashed window(s) making your home insecure.
- A sudden and uncontainable leak from a water pipe.
- A toilet that isn’t flushing or it’s blocked and there are no other accessible toilets in your home.
- Boiler repairs where you have no heat and/or hot water.
Nothing much more than that really and I am positive my stand alone insurances included these types of examples as well.
I think the Ombudsman is now checking to see what would have been cheaper and saving me money but my stand alone insurances covers for everything, both contents and buildings etc where we had 12 % discount on taking this as an altogether policy where much of it was also unlimited claims as well, now the premier account is mostly up to a year on a claim for each year etc....
