Indeed mate. Once terror has been ruled out; a terrain landing (for whatever reason) is possibly the answer. There was someone on one of the breakfast programs stating its not impossible for the dual tracking systems to go out together if there was a catastrophic failure.

          Scary stuff!

Re: Malaysia Airlines: Suspected Fragments Found

As more pieces of the puzzle come together it actually starts to become less sinister after talking with some fellow pilots ....

The flight departed as normal and began it's climb to cruise and the flight deck communication relayed information to ATC as expected. Then data shows the aircraft computers had manual input to change direction. But no radio comms heard again from the flight deck, so as they settled back for what should have been an uneventful overnight flight to China something goes drastically wrong on board...high jack ? Terrorism? Blown out of the sky by a military missile ?
No ...maybe just a catastrophic issue such as a fire on the flight deck which rendered the comms inoperative hence no mayday was received, So the Captain who has many hours of flight experience does what he is instinctively trained to do, change direction to the nearest airport he can land at. I as a pilot, on any flight I undertake, be it a few minutes or a few hours I'm looking what my best options are in case of emergency, where is my nearest airport, ahead, behind me, abeam my position ? And I believe this is what the pilot could have been trying to do, reach the nearest airport which happened to be on the vectors the new heading was changed to, the data also shows a rapid decent then level, off to cruse again, maybe he was attempting to put out a fire ?

Personally I'm now inclined to think the crew were overcome by fumes and the aircraft flew on with George (auto pilot) until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the Indian Ocean.

Re: Malaysia Airlines: Suspected Fragments Found

Because officially there is nothing to tell any relatives yet, naturally they are all in a poor mental state at this time, they are not interested in listening to theories they want answers.....and unfortunately I suspect these answers are sitting at 15,000 below the Indian Ocean !

The investigations have taken another twist today, if the media is to be believed, a flight simulator taken away from the pilots home shows some previously imputed flight plans have been deleted, they are now trying to recover the data to see if he had done a dummy run of the doomed flight....they are also reporting that the pilots last radio transmission with ATC reporting that all was ok was in fact made. after the aircraft deviated from it's set course.... Like I say just words from media, and I've yet to come across a journalist who would let real facts get in the way of a good story....
so until it's known for sure I'll stay with the theory of a incapacitated crew and the auto pilot flying the plane until it ran out of fuel.

Both pilots on the missing Malaysia Airlines plane may have been incapacitated by a fire in the cabin, an expert has told Sky News.

The theory, which has been gathering pace within the aviation industry over recent days, suggests the tracking equipment was disabled to prevent a fire getting worse.

I wonder if the plane will ever be found. There was a lady on the radio (not sure who, or where she was from) saying its like looking for a five pence pence dropped on the floor in a busy day in London.

Will the black box be of any use now anyway? I thought it was like some CCTV and would just record over itself after a set time.. ?

And even if the pilots were overtaken by fumes.. what stopped the other 237 people from using their mobiles or iPads etc from sending messages of distress?

Not absolutely certain of the facts but I believe that it ceases under certain circumstances to avoid just that.

It seems that they may have been at an altitude or distance from cellular masts that would have meant there was no network coverage.

These days many airliners are equipped to send and receive phone signals via a GPS satellite and relay the signal back to ground based cellular masts, some airlines charge the passenger for use of the service a bit like a premium call line cost, but it has already been confirmed this aircraft was not equipped to allow cell phone use. Hence no calls sent or received from anyone on board.

The search for possible debris of missing flight MH370 has entered its second day.

                              This is what we know:

:: Australian Maritime Safety Authority search operation concludes for the day without any sightings.

:: Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said objects spotted on satellite images in Indian Ocean may now have "sunk to the bottom".

:: Malaysia Airlines chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya confirms lithium ion batteries were in hold of missing plane, but insists they are "approved" and not "dangerous goods".

:: Hishammuddin Hussein, acting minister of transport, said UK has offered list of assets to aid in search.

:: Three-hour meeting held with relatives of passengers on Thursday.

:: Five aircraft in total involved in search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

:: Three Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) P3 Orions, a civil Gulfstream jet and a US Navy P8 Poseidon aircraft are being used.

:: Due to the distance to and from the target area, the aircraft involved have approximately two hours of search time.

:: One merchant vessel is currently in the search area.

:: A second merchant vessel is due to arrive tonight.

:: At least seven Chinese ships are heading to the region but could take days to arrive.

Satellite data has confirmed Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 carrying 239 people crashed into the southern Indian Ocean.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told a news conference all those on the Boeing 777-200 have been lost.
