Re: Patch's Diary
I have no idea sorry... it looks like they slap around £20/£23 a month on as interest. I did write to them a few years ago saying I couldn't afford to pay them if they kept charging interest but they wanted me to do an income sheet to prove it and at the time I couldn't be arsed. I have no access to the account and no bank card or cheque facility... it's literally only there waiting to be paid off and they said if I wanted to have a Barclays account I'd have to apply for one AFTER I'd paid off this one.
Not that I want one!! lol
I've CCA'd all the others now but understand I can't with this as it's a bank account.. it's old though... 1997 I opened it!

Re: Patch's Diary
Well tbh they can keep it for ten or a hundred years, it doesn't matter. Any unlawful and excessive charges can be argued later; but yea maybe sending them a letter literally saying you're not paying this and to take you to court will force their hand.......
also once it's sold to a dca the charges are a lot less. Can you clarify, of the amount owing how much roughly would be charges, would you say?

Re: Patch's Diary
They aren't selling though. It's been years since I used the account and months since I paid anything but the interest keeps being added on.
I'm scared the amount owed will end up double in a few years and then something will have changed and they will come after me for it all when I wont have access to the money to pay it off.
So confused.. How long does it take a current account to clock that I am not going to pay? Or do I need to write to them and say "Look I'm not paying you so sell it"

Re: Patch's Diary
Why does one account matter so much to you, if someone owes you cash then why not keep the cash and enjoy it, sod paying the banks back!!!
but if you were to make an offer its best to get it sold to a dca then we can probably get it settled for a lot less, maybe even 50%
Don't jump in here! think carefully......

Re: Patch's Diary
- Type of account Unused Bank Account - Barclays (joint)
- Date commenced01/07/1997
- Approx balance £1570.39
- Date last paid I blag them here and there with between £20 and £50
- Are you on arrangement or not paying Not paying since December 2013
- Status They don't seem too bothered
- Account owner Barclays Bank
If I wanted to close the above account which is now at £1,640.00 could I do it over the telephone.. call up, pay the balance and have it shut down there and then.
OR.... would they refuse and charge what I and hubby owe to Barclays Cred Card to it? We both have Barclays CC that we are in the process of UEing.
I've been offered the money to get shot of it from a relative who has borrowed a LOT of money from me over the last 20 years ... which in all honesty would be amazing and make my life just that little bit less stressy.
I am going to continue down the UE route for the other debts... but if I could just get rid of this one and know it was closed and gone that would be incredible.
Any advice?

Does the SID letter need to be sent signed for?
- make the debtor pay the debt before they're supposed to
- get a court judgment against the debtor
