Well true to their word Cabot have sent a letter with a letter enclosed from Mackenzie Hall - Cabot's letter explains that Mackenzie Hall will be in touch Mackenzie Hall's states that their client knows of no valid reason for non-payment and that they want to help me - they suggest I get in touch were their fully trained advisors will discuss the options open to us! If they do not hear from me then collections contact will continue which will include further letters and telephone calls.

Still haven't CCA'd anyone for this card...... is now the time do you think? Looks like it will be SB in early 2015..... don't want to fall at the final hurdle... how good/bad are Mackenzie Hall?

21.10.14 - First real letter from Mackenzie Hall - its a settlement offer - they would like me to give them a ring as their client might accept a lower figure than the balance.

They will also discus alternative options with me if that's not affordable.

Still haven't CCA'd but there doesn't appear to be any threats yet so I think I will ignore.

Interesting that this is dated 14th October and the settlement offer runs out on the 24th but I only received the letter today.....

It's like poker - I feel I don't want to show my hand yet and ask for a CCA but don't want to miss the opportunity..... once letter might be the one to make me apply for the CCA....

As it's MH, and as they are still being 'nice', If it was me I would still hang fire on the CCA letter.

31/10/14 - letter received from Mackenzie Hall - this is a reduced settlement offer - they state their clients are prepared to knock £1000 off the £6800 debt to draw the matter to a close.

Slightly worried about the following wording "Our client would prefer an amicable settlement, however, should the settlement amount not be paid by the specified date (7/11/14),
they will not hesitate to take such further action as may be appropriate."

Is the time coming to CCA them do you think? Should I send the request to Mackenzie Hall or Cabot Financial or in fact to Barclaycard?

I think I feel I need to do something now - the words will not hesitate worry me a bit.

Try to hold your nerve Jayne. MH have said that Cabot may take further action, not that MH will take further action, because they can't. All they can do is report back to Cabot that they've failed to bully any money out of you after 7th November.

Cabot will either outsource the debt to another DCA or they'll write to you direct with threats and ultimatums. They shouldn't issue proceedings without sending you a LBA first, at which point you send them a CCA request.

Meanwhile put on your poker face

In other words..... they will probably sell it on or get some other company to threaten you. Not worth worrying about Jane - you would more than this if it was going to court. I'd be inclined to carry on ignoring for now....

They are happy to offer a settlement discount of up to £6600 valid until 30/11/14 ........ same offer same company still don't have it.....

8.01.15 - well my Aktiv and my Marlin (both egg cards) have dropped off my credit report - only one card with a default showing and that doesn't hit 6 years from default till May 2015 although it does become SB from end of January The egg cards do not become SB till later in the year as I was daft enough to make a couple of token £5 payments....

I still have a CCJ showing on my credit report and the one credit card showing the default so my rating is still really poor, a 1 out of 5. My long term plan is to be able to remortgage my home in 7 years - the CCJ becomes 6 years in 3 years time. Will my credit rating get better when that drops off even if I don't pay it off? I need to sort out my mortgage then as our interest only mortgage needs to be repaid in 7 years time and we have no capital plan to pay it off with so will have to remortgage onto a repayment mortgage then.... As long as I stay in employment at the level I am at now I should be able to get the mortgage in my sole name.

I can't answer your questions, but I think that after 6 years the CCJ will drop off the records; I have 2 years to wait and everyone has said that my credit rating will improve after 6 years. The only possible problem will be if they ask if you have had a CCJ on the mortgage application form.

CCJ should drop off after 6 years, but allow an additional month for this to be reflected in your credit file.

Your credit rating should improve then providing there is nothing else holding it back.

                              Hi Jane,
re: credit rebuilding - I am following the excellent advice within the sub-prime credit area
Essentially, it means building up trust before your adverse history clears ready for when you are in a position to take on credit so perspective lenders can see all those lovely green ticks within your credit file.

When Gold isn't enough, there is SA Gold! New to the forum and find the UE route a bit scary? Take a look at my diary here and judge for yourself. I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

27/01/15 - received a letter from PRA explaining that my account has been assigned to them - they also included a statement - there was no mention of payment - my CCA request is still outstanding with Aktiv - this is the last of my debts due to go SB, that's not till May this year although the default has dropped off my credit file - I owe just over £10K from an old egg account - they are not asking for anything so I will ignore for now but this one worries me - so near but potentially so far!!
