Sosad, if/when they call you simply record the number and date/time of the caller and hang up.

Honestly, don't speak other than to say who is it - eventually you'll get to know who it is calling you. Plus shortly we'll be launching a product to alleviate all creditor hassle so bear with us - won't be long now

    Hi all,
Well I've waited and waited and still haven't had a phone call, I don't know whether to be thankful or disappointed !!!! Lol

Pixie and IF, not answering does seem more appealing than speaking to them, and it doesn't cost much for a stamp.here I go will I ,won't I, more choices!!!!

Numpty you make it sound so easy ,but I get all flustered on the phone and start to stutter , as for the e mail fiasco well what can I say ?(was funny though!!!) xx

As for the phone calls, as everyone else has said they do get less, I think it was 4 months since they last phoned me.

    My conversations used to go like this;

    Me : Hello
DCA : Can I speak to Mr Monkey
    Me : who's calling
    DCA : DCA
ME : In writing only, Bye.
    hung up,
no need to get ito a discussion with them, no need to get into the security questions, and no need to feel you're being impolite
    No fun in that..........

    Nite? That's getting up time!

Just like to re-iterate what the others have said SoSad.

I'm almost 2 years in and it does get a lot easier - the first few months are the worst. They bombard you with letters and calls and you're still feeling like you should be paying and not ignoring their love letters.

At one time, my diary was constantly on the first page of the UE diaries but, when I wanted to add my latest entry, it was on page 9 or something

With android or Iphones you can download an app that will screen. there are some supposedly voice recorders for smart phones but for me they didn;t work . I know i could have saved the cost to a full n final but it was money i was given so i wanted to spend it. I think of Dad everytime i use it

    Re: Starting out

The telephone harassment is another story.

I pulled the phone plug out of the wall as well in 2006/7 when the nuisance was at its worst. Of course, it helps if you've got no living family and the only calls you ever get are nuisance calls anyway. The only reason I ever had a phone line in the first place was to get online. It also helps if you don't own a cell phone as those things get mercilessly abused as well.

Now, there is a much better answer. If you've got a standard phone line with broadband connection, all you need to do is get one of those cheap phones where the ringer can be switched off. You will still be able to phone out, but the idiots can make a million nuisance calls and you will never be disturbed.

Then, get a free Sipgate number and give that to your friends and family. You can download what they call a 'soft phone' and receive calls on that. If you are not at home or not online, the caller can leave a message and it will be sent as an mp3 attachment to your email address.

TrueCall is another solution, but that is not cheap. The Sipgate solution is free and the cheap handsets are less than ten quid.

I still haven't managed to find a solution for cell phones. If you type “truecall for cell phone” into Google, one of the first page listings is a post I made on the CAG in November 2009 asking for any possible trueCall type solution for cellular telephones. I'm no nearer finding a solution now than I was two and a half years ago.

As I don't own a cell phone it is not a great problem for me, but the number of cell phone owners in society is rising dramatically. I suspect I will soon have to get one whether I like it or not. I got a prepaid card last month, and the online application insisted on a cell phone number. It simply wouldn't go through without it. I was lucky, because for my Samsung netbook I've got a dongle which connects to the internet through the cell phone network. This meant I had a cell phone number even though I had no cell phone.

Anyway, with the modern smart phone it must be possible to build trueCall type functionality into a cell phone, and be able to block nuisance callers as you can on a land line. Does anybody know of an app which can do this? If not, we ought to get together and build one. I'm sure there would be plenty of potential customers.
