They pre-approved you, despite your credit history?
Didn't that make you wonder why?

    Anyone dealt with these?
I haven't but, then, I prefer not to pay vastly inflated prices for cheap tat.

And if I do get something will my credit rating improve despite the fact I have defaults on my file?
    Yes, of course it will.

Have you thought of using Freecycle? There's a branch in Plymouth (that's where you say you live) and they're giving away free baby clothes and cot stuff today. What perfect timing eh

Gah! Thank you so much! Didn't even know about freecycle. Unfortunatley I'm at work and my partner cant get there as she obviously cant drive.

Thanks anyway PlanB, I'll keep my eye out there.

Loads of stuff on freecycle. You'll need to join first but you can also request stuff if you need things. As long as you word it nicely, people are usually really generous.

Re: Brighthouse - Good or Bad?

Just a point on Brighthouse and any other 'alternate' (i.e. payday loan) lenders when it comes to your credit file, if your goal is to improve your credit score.

Unfortunately it will have opposite effect as most high street lenders see taking credit with these lenders as a sign of financial distress and won't lend to you even if you demonstrate a flawless payment history in repaying the debt.

You're better off now not applying for credit for 2-3 years and letting any current defaults or payday loan entries on your credit file get older than 3 years. At that point you should find that some more mainstream lenders will consider lending to you.

As far as Brighthouse as a company go - they are shocking and are responsible for some of the worst abuses of vulnerable people that I have seen with regard to misrepresenting their legal position and what they are allowed to do when people fall behind with repayments. Personally I would not recommend anyone use them at all, if you're in any doubt have a read of these articles:

                        Thanks SnV

I've definitely reconsidered that brighthouse, one of my friends did it, and he got to the final payment, and because he couldnt pay they took his item away aswell.

                        Definitely robbing the poor.

Moment of madness me considering it I guess.

And if its a standard HP agreement (which it should be) they have no legal entitlement to do so....

Really?! I'm guessing that forms part of allowing bailiffs to enter property, as they have no legal right to do so, this waives their right to remove products?

I was under the impression that if it's HP, and you dont make repayments, they're legally entitled to take the item.

Only if you have not paid x amount back under a HP agreement. Usually, it will say once 2/3rds of it has been paid, they have no entitlement to remove goods.

And this is one of the things that Brighthouse play on - the majority of the time the people that come to remove the goods are NOT bailiffs, though they like to make out they are.
