Can anyone help - I wrote to mbna asking them to accept a reduced offer as final settlement on my accounts with them as I just wanted to get them cleared they then phoned me to say thet they were happy to accept the settlement figure- and I confimed with them that I would not be pursued for the remaining amount and my acount will be closed and that I was not liable for the remaining amount -I also had this in aletter from them confirming it. Then this morning I recieved a letter stating that they are transfering the remaining balance to another company and providing me with a new account number. what should I do I am furious.....

Do you have proof of this agreement, in writing?

If they did this over the phone sorry, your own mistake for believing a bank. I can sort it for you but need a lot more info and clarification as to how you agreed to repay.

Problem is that these buggers will say owt on the phone to get you to pay thus our no1 rule is hang up and only deal in writing.

That letter pretty much needs to say

"I confirm that you will not be persued for any remaining balance provided we recieve your partial settlement by X"

Do you know the time and date the call to them was made ?
