    Think I will give the Microsoft program a whirl.

    I do keep trying to install AVG on a daily basis - clearing my cache and deleting the existing version - but always get the error message. Trouble is, I really like this program ....

      Have just installed Microsoft Security Essentials and it seems to be working OK.

      So, thanks to everyone for their advice - much appreciated.

        Glad you got it sorted !
        When Gold isn't enough, there is SA Gold! New to the forum and find the UE route a bit scary? Take a look at my diary here and judge for yourself. I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

          I'm the forum administrator and I look after the theme & features, our volunteers & users and also look after any complaints or Data Protection queries that pass through the forum or main website. I am extremely busy so if you do contact me or need a reply to a forum post then use the email or PM features offered because I do miss things and get tied up for days at a time!

            Still upgrade Vista to Win7 if you can. It's ace

              Thanks Niddy and SA for the advice. My "techie expert" is home from holiday tomorrow - and he owes me for pet and house-sitting. Might leave it a couple of hours before I start the pester ...

              And I agree about Win 7 - have been using it on son's machine - yes, he did give permission!
