I quite agree on your comments re windows 8. Loved Ubuntu, but this laptop doesn't work with it due to problems with wireless network card. Since moving to 8 I haven't bothered with Linux. Do miss my Mac, wish I could afford to buy another, that's why I am watching your thread. Tried to build a Hackintosh in the past without success.

It's going to be a few days because my friend with a real Mac isn't going to be around for a bit. I could try uploading the OSX image to a USB stick from within the VirtualBox setup but I think that would mean having to mount one of my real hard drives so that the virtual Mac could see the downloaded files. I'd rather not risk messing up the rest of my installation, though, so I'll just wait until I can use my friend's Mac.

I did an update on this yesterday but it seems to have disappeared, possibly because of the work on the site.

I did try making a USB stick but it didn't boot on my PC. I'm not sure what I did wrong, as I did follow the instructions carefully.

My next move is to buy some dual layer DVDs, which I'll have to order online as my local supermarkets only stock the single layer type. It'll be easier to do it this way than messing about with USB sticks on someone else's computer.
