    Re: Fiesta Engine.

Something has. I went up to Northampton a week ago to collect an ex Church minibus. Ford Transit T&T for one year, 1999 T reg, 108000 miles, advertised for £800, got it for £500 and let them keep the back seats as long as they left me three seat belts.

I've already fitted the 12 volt, mains and water pipes. Building carcasses for the seating now, then need to run gas pipes (will get this bit professionally checked, but never had problem before).

Normal transit rust around arches, but solid underneath, and nothing that can't be either touched up or replaced cheaply as there are millions of spares for the smiley straight 2.5D. Took it to Anglesey and back last weekend and it did about 40mpg there and back which is VERY impressive. It drives beautifully.

Held up by money for the minute, but will get there. Coped with a jack of water, little camping stove, a genny, camping bed mattress and sleeping bag last weekend. It was great! I never used the genny in the end as mobile lasted and just went to bed when it got dark. lol

        Very much so.

Not bothered about a diesel if its smaller engine. Unless of course looking at post CAT law, so low emissions, low tax. Otherwise I think the tax levels(most diesels being over 1.5) along with the higher cost of diesel negate savings from fuel economy.

          Re: Fiesta Engine.

oscar i have a 1.2 corsa that i have just put through MOT and taxed it R 97 with 98k on clock (will do as got to go to scotland 2moro back Sat/Sun) with tax till october.

this was my 2nd car after beloved micra failed Mot and needed alot of work doing to it which i've had done so looking to get rid of corsa (not fond of them tbh)

I was looking at 500-600 but would do for 450 as could do with getting it gone soonish. I'm also not far from you in shropshire.

          What you think?

Thats quite tempting. Whats the body/shell like? I know corsas tend to bubble rust - usually on bonnet edges, arches and door bottoms. Obviously dont expect a 15 year old car to be perfect with a showroom shine!!!

Also, not massively important, is it three or five door?

                    Re: Fiesta Engine.

Oscar if you are still pondering on the Fiesta, the old OHV engine is generally a good old plodder, it does have a timing chain rather than a timing belt, the chain seldom needs replacing even when it gets a bit rattly, and Fords are cheap to maintain.

Don't dismiss getting a bargain from the auctions, the days of sawdust filled engines and gearboxes are now pretty much forgotten, most cheapies that go through the block are simply trade in cars that the dealers will not retail.

Diesel ? well yes you will usually get a lot more to the gallon than petrol, but unless you are doing a lot of mileage the cost difference between petrol and diesel does not make it viable.

For a good all round cheap runner you will not go far wrong with a Jap car, Toyota,Nissan or similar.
Make a few phone calls around your local dealers and see if they have anything that they may be sending to the auctions, they will sell to the public on a trade sale basis eg. no warranty.

                    Good luck.

Meant to respond to this earlier.

By all means I am quite happy for people to do that, problem is (only small) it could involve a bit of travelling, and I may not even want / like the car (but I suppose I could always sell it on)

Not in any massive rush. I can get to most places I need to via Bus, just not having a car restricts ones independence.

                        Re: Fiesta Engine.

Why oh WHY are there so many jokers (and idiot bidders) on fleabay.

                        51Plate Clio, Expression+ 16V 1.2l

No Tax, No MOT, Needs front wheel (and tyre) both rear bearings, engine is mis-firing and (possibly linked) the service and emissions lights are illuminated.

Its already on 450, and apparentyl, according to the seller, cars like this sell for £1200!!

As far as I am concerned, engine is a serious problem, it has no MOT and its worth scrap value - £130 round here.

Best instance of wishful thinking for ages.

You don't think he could be bidding up his own auction could he?
Naw no one would be daft enough to do that, would they?

If you want to depress yourself. Just look on fleabay to see what private sales of your own motor are fetching.

My people carrier from a couple of dealers is anything up to 2K
from private sellers there was the same model with a full mot, factory sat nav and an 18 inch TV/DVD that folded down from the roof. It only made £650. So what does that make my shed worth

Still it's replacement should show a little profit, though I'm hoping to hold on to this one for a couple of years.

Good Luck with the search Oscar.

Would like to say yes, but its 6 different bidders!

I have found a clio (though I did say I wouldnt have another) for just under 2 with MOT till January. No tax, but if it doesnt go much higher, its not a bad buy.
