My Cahoot account and debt is to be WIPED OUT COMPLETELY, without me having to lift a finger. Yep, they have given me notice that my account is being closed and my balance reduced to zero. They have informed me I do not have to pay a single penny of the money owed (close to 7k) and the account is settled. Thank god I never reached out to them to make an offer to settle this account eh? (see posts above as have recently thought about this).

    What a result!
Brilliant, I'm so pleased for you too SLUG

Aye, its a bit nuts really.......all I ever did on this card was stop paying and issue a CCA request, that was about 4 years ago and they've done jack all since then, not even defaulted me or sold the debt on to someone who might chase it. If only all accounts were that easy eh?!

    Happy Days

Well done you for holding your nerve and not making an offer to settle.

Thanks Elsa, that's what I thought really.

Not too bothered on the mortgage front just yet, but preparing for next summer or maybe the year after - its not a massive deal anyway if nothing was available still, we'd just switch to 100% cash buy.

    Hi Slug,
If it was me I'd concentrate on settling the CCJ for now. I certainly wouldn't wake Marlin up, and if the Cahoot debt is under the CRA radar I'd leave it well alone.

Mortgage companies do go back quite a few years in credit checks. Others will advise you better on this aspect, but looking at your present position in all honestly I think you'll be looking at more than 1-2 years before you can get anything like a decent deal, unfortunately.

    *dusts himself down*

Well, I'm back (once more etc)......

I'm finally in a position to sort out my credit rating and clear some of the last debts that are clinging on, with a view to getting a small mortgage in about 1-2 years time if needed (currently have one, will be hopefully paid off in a year).

What I have in a nutshell:

    1. 6k debt on M&S credit card, county court judgement, paying £25 a month. I want to make an offer on this to clear it. Will check out letter templates for offers to make, but any advice?
    2. 10k debt on Egg card, default served almost 4yrs ago - Part of the Marlin buyout, tempted to "wait this one out" until statute barred in 2 years. Would it be worth a cheeky offer though, or don't poke the beast?!
    3. 6k debt on Carhoot credit card - this one is strange! Its like a frozen debt, showing on credit rating as no defaults or missed payments now, but no payment made for 4 years. Its showing as green on every credit report and not flagged at all. Looking back, the red missed payments changed to green about 2 years ago. I've not even got a letter off them for years either. Forgotten debt? Happy for it to sit there if it doesn't do anything! Although I though they had defaulted this, I think I only ever got default threats.....

    ta muchly!
