    Re: Haggling with broadband provider

    An update on this:

My virgin cable services were disconnected on 29/12. I've got a 3 mobile broadband dongle (£10.50 including 3GB of data) from ebay. I don't download anything so it seems to be going okay and I don't notice any difference with regards to speed. I was on a sim only 1 month rolling contract with O2 which gave me free O2 to O2 calls and 300 minutes which I've now changed to a 12 month contract giving 600 mminutes and still free O2 to O2 calls (most of family on O2). Oh got me a freeview+ box for Christmas so don't need the cable channels which I didn't watch much anyway.

All in all, I reckon I'm saving £10 a week

Another plus point - no more annoying calls from dcas!! They have no option but to correspond in writing now!

        Re: Haggling with broadband provider

Ok. I've been using my broadband dongle for 3 weeks now.

I haven't noticed any difference at all with the speed between this and the virgin broadband. I still have well over a GB left of the 3GB I got with the dongle which I paid £10.50 for (new) from ebay and I've been surfing the web (mainly this forum!) for several hours a day. So I'm really happy with how much I'm saving

5corpio, why don't you look on ebay for a feesat box. The freeview box he bought was reconditioned but it was half the price of a new one (close to £200.) I researched the reviews for makes/models before we bought it and got one with excellent reviews.

          Re: Haggling with broadband provider

Hope all is sorted now then.

I had hassle with SKY and AOL.

I had a sky tv bundle at then £17 a month, now risen to £22 a month, nothing extra but it just went up last year, and I started on the £17 a month back a few years ago, about 4 now.

Anyway my provider for my internet is with AOL, and have been with them since I can remember, but when we got sky tv we could have had a good deal with the full package for less that £30 a month which included the whole 3, phone/tv and internet.

But we were let down 7 times all in all, and trying to contact them - they are flipping hard work.

Even got he mac code from AOL within 48 hours, sky confirmed it was not correct, so again we contacted AOL, and the same thing happened again and again, so in the end we gave up and I'm still with AOL, or what many may say AOHELL!

But we were sent a few routers to the house, and given all different dates, sky were doing my head in and so were AOL, enough was enough, then we stayed put!
