Final update on this one - I have settled on compensation of £250 which they have paid out already.

Many thanks for all your help and advice.

Well they have come back and upped their offer to £200. Any advice on whether to accept that and run or carry on the fight. Any input would be gratefully received.

    Thanks,
    Beefy

You're not alone Pixie. It seems that 1,000 customers per week complain to the Energy Ombudsman about a problem with their utility supplier. That's a lot of unhappy customers.

I used to be with Scottish Power for a number of years and all was fine - I had an issue with them failing to keep an appointment and left as their customer service was appalling.

I think all energy suppliers are the same to be honest - Any thing out the ordinary and it all falls apart.

I don't! I'm having similar problems with Scottish Power making mistake after mistake (though not miss-selling)...saying one thing then doing something else.

Very much so - They are a bunch of cowboys, they really are!

After everything being sorted and being assured my direct debit was set at the agreed amount, they send me an email this morning saying they have reduced it to £50 per month!!

I know mistakes happen, but this many? I find it hard to believe.

    Re: EDF Mis-Selling Compensation

Thanks PlanB as always - I will ask for a cheque as I like to over pay my direct debits as I can get cash back with my 123 account. I also like to have a good credit balance ready for the winter.

They called today and said their computers were down yesterday so she couldn't get my number. They have upped their offer to £150 - I advised that I didn't think that was sufficient as there are still unanswered questions and that they had effectively locked me into a contract without my knowledge on top of everything else they have admitted to. She said they wont increase it any further and that the next step would be 'deadlock' with the ombudsmen which they would instigate and send over their files. I explained what I intended to do re asking for everything in writing and sending a SAR so I could appeal to the ombudsmen with the full details.

She asked how much it would take for me to accept a compensation payment in resolution to my complaint!

She is going to speak to her manager and call back on Monday - So we will see what she comes back with. I have a figure that I will accept, if not I will take it all the way just to cause them the same level of grief they have caused me.

    Until Monday...

Whatever compensation is agreed you want it paid to you by cheque not as a credit on your electricity account - unless you prefer the latter option which should reduce your monthly direct debits instead.

That's my plan if they call tomorrow.

It amazes me though how then can fail at every step of the way.

You don't want a call. You want a letter so you've got a proper paper trail for the ombudsman. In fact I would suggest that you contact EDF to ask for all future communication to be in writing.

Well, they failed to call at all.

I will see if they do tomorrow. Energy companies are an utter joke they really are.

From Planb's link it's the ombudsman services that cover gas and electricity
