Why is it Great Britain & Northern Ireland ? is Northern Ireland not part of Great Britain ?

Northern Ireland is a Province. I beleive it goes back to partition in 1921.

Still part of the UK.

Must admit to being a bit of a cynic about these, but watching the almost tangible joy on the young girls face when she got gold in the rowing did bring a bit of a tear to my eye.

I watched the women's triathlon this morning. How gruelling it is, I don't know how they keep going!!!

The UK actually stands for "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" so it should be GB and NI but see below
