    Re: London Olympics

London is buzzing at the moment! (and traffic is actally lighter than normal - well it was this morning lets see how it goes on the way home)

I thought the opening was fun and very well organised - and I thought having the youngters light the flame was amazing. They had Dame Kellie Holmes and the young girl she nomintated - this girl has acutally been mentered by her and is still in a progamme traning - so this young lady could be our future... i liked it.

I don't think West Ham are having the stadium now - don't think they could acutally afford it - think it is still up for grabs - i think it would be a terrible idea for West Ham to move from Upton Park - they would never fill that stadium week in week out - plus the fact they have been in the Championship for a couple of seasons and are only just back up in the Premier - lets see........

yeah, Ottawa is a border town with Quebec a lot of french speakers there.

Calgary its worth it to them with the stampede to have lots of french lol its a money thing. All the documents in Canada are translated as there is 2 official languages. You will find more touristy places in non french Canada have french stuff available

I thought West Ham were just refusing to share it with Leyton Orient but their bid was still on the table. Anyway we won't know until October but if the bid by Formula One wins that could be seen as a bit too snobbish and less about serving the local community who've had to live with the damn building site on their doorstep for long enough

West Ham have pulled out of that deal so what will happen to the Olympic Stadium after is still uncertain.

I believe there was better choices for the lighting of the flame, im sure most of these kids don't actually get what it was all about.

I could name a shed load of people who could have done it. I would have personally like to see Princess Anne honoured as she is an Olympian. I believe the cauldron lighting is a BIG deal some great people have lit it... and to have 7 people do it was a bit deflating to the whole thing.

I wondered why the French commentary in the first place. Was watching with Canadians and it sounded just like being in Canada where French is inserted into everything!
French is only dominate in one province Quebec, the rest of the country really doesn't do much about french even thou its a national language. But French is listed as the first language for the olympics with english technically tied but really behind it.

We're already in a new stadium...
I meant give us the money so we can waste it on overpaid players!

I think the business community see it as a PR exercise for UK plc which will attract squillions in future foreign investment and exports. Since I can't move for the thousands of people crawling all over London right now (and for the next 6 weeks) I presume this means it's also a huge money spinner with everyone having to eat and sleep somewhere, and buy Oyster cards to ride the tube.

It's about raising our profile in the international arena and making it perfectly clear that GB is nothing to do with the Eurozone

You'd have thought they'd have English first and then French (both are the official languages of the Olympics)

yeah I get the younger generation but heres my views:

    A) will we hear from these kids again?

    B) How long before they are disgracing the country and in the SUN

    C) imsure they will end up on TOWIE before long.

Who knows maybe one or two of them will go on to make us proud.

To me it was a HUGE let down tot he climax.

Well having been force fed the opening ceremony after deciding it was that or have to leave the pub last night, I have to say I was quite impressed with some of the "tricks" Director Danny Boyle pulled out of the bag.

And I have to agree, Lighting the Cauldron was pretty spectacular.

But Handy, I will have to disagree about "Macca" It was cringe worthy listening to him murder Hey Jude, his singing voice has gone now,not that it was ever that good anyway, he's an old man and needs to be put out too pasture.
And a strange song choice of Hey Jude, I mean he wrote that originally for Julian Lennon when his father John left his mother for that Yoko Ono bird...maybe I am missing something?, but what relevance has that to do with the Olympics ?
