Sinkhole swallows 3 cars in Chicago

One person was in hospital after a sinkhole swallowed three cars quickly, growing from about 20 feet to about 40 feet. First two cars slid in, then a third as the hole widened, witnesses said. A fourth vehicle was towed from the edge as it was about to fall inside.

The heavy rain could have contributed to the break of the cast iron pipe that dates back to 1915, he said. Officials are looking at the age of the main as well as weather conditions.

Something my youngest said to me one day a few years ago when we were talking about oil.. I was using an orange as an example of Earth and the juice inside as an example of crude oil.

"But Mama? If you keep sucking the juice out of the orange wont the sides all fall in?"

It made me sit back and stare at him... he was only about 8 at the time.
