The issue we have here is the mental state of the person this hoax was aimed at which was the person/s receiving the call all to often what people see as harmless fun is often not the case as we have seen here.

Admittedly the two DJ's had no way of knowing this but surely in that case the hoax should never have been made and taking into account it was a hospital they was phoning anyway and thus had no idea at all who would answer the call.

We are all human beings of very different mind sets and for me I dislike this behaviour and see it as a form of bullying abuse.

I only hope that lessons will be learnt from this but I doubt it as we are becoming a world out of control without any form of humanity or compassion.

Agree Pompey - I find it crazy that this hoax actually was reviewed by the station managers and their legal team and they still found it OK to proceed.

Public pressure or not how very sad for the family, we all like a joke and I dont think for a moment the djs expected this outcome but were they not gaining private and confidential info by deception, I think personally they shoud be sacked and hopefully this may put paid to any other idiots who think it is ok to do these things, ross and that other idiot cant think of his name did the same to andrew sachs.

Anybody who makes malicious telephone calls to a hospital is wasting the time of those who have serious and often critical work to do, and should be boiled alive as slowly and painfully as possible no matter what the consequences. Whether anyone commits suicide or not isn't even an issue. It is only one step removed from making hoax 999 calls.

It's a shame we are not still in the reign of Elizabeth I instead of Elizabeth II, then these morons would be taken to the Tower to have their heads removed. They could then be used as Hallowe'en masks as there is plainly nothing inside.

I only wish I had been there to field that nuisance call. Here is how the dialogue would have proceeded -

Hospital: Hello Good morning.
Mel Greig, pretending to be the Queen: Oh Hello there, could I please speak to Kate, my granddaughter?
(At this point I realise that Kate is not the Queen's granddaughter, and I also notice the awful disguised Aussie accent.)
Hospital: Oh yes, just hold on a moment
Michael Christian: Are they putting us through?
Mel Greig: Yes
Christian: [laughs] If this has worked, it's the easiest prank call we've ever made. Your accent sucked by the way. [laughs]
Greig: I'm not used to playing old 80-year-olds.
"Queen": Kate my darling, are you there?
Nurse (me in a squeaky voice): Good morning ma'am, this is a nurse speaking. How may I help you?
"Queen": Hello, I'm just after my granddaughter Kate, I wanted to see how her little tummy bug is going.
Nurse : Oh, dear I really don't know how to tell you this ma'am, but I'm afraid she passed away in the night. Lethal cocktail, I'm afraid.
"Queen" (stunned) : L-Lethal C-Cocktail, what do you mean?
Nurse : What I bloody mean, cobber, is that she drank a lethal cocktail. She took a quart mug, filled it with one pint of Foster's and one of XXXX, stirred it and drank it. The taste of that would be enough to kill any poor bastard.

What would they say next? If they said anything else, I'd just ask them if they wanted to book Kevin Wilson to perform at the Royal funeral, and tell them that I could give them a special discount in exchange for a knighthood.

Personally, I don't think the DJs were to blame for this at all; it probably had more to do with the over-the-top fuss that normally goes hand-in-hand with royalty.

How many of us mere mortals get looked after in hospital because of morning sickness anyway? The whole thing has been over-trumped from the start..... and a vulnerable woman has paid the ultimate price.
