How low can I go do you think as a starting point - offer 10% of the debt (equivalent via the pro-rata system) ?

I would not make offers, i've already stated that! However, this is you and not me so begrudgingly you should start at 10% yea, however they will refuse - you'll find that ONLY DCA's will haggle and until it gets right to the point that you have beaten them with compliance issues, they usually always say no.

In your case, as most have gone silent on you - making an offer now is like showing a red rag to a bull - you'll instigate contact and hassle, bear in mind once you start - there is no going back. IVA/BR = loss of job - bear that in mind.

What i'm trying to get across, in the nicest possible way is that yea, you may have a few grand to throw at these, but lets assume that they all knock you back and eventually you manage to clear 3 debts with your savings. Then what? You will still have the others chasing you and believe me, they will not wait a year until you can save enough! Ideally you continue as you are and ignore them - then you save up and when you have 50% of the balances owing you can be pretty certain you'll clear them all. At the moment I guarantee you this time next year, you'll not be any better off but instead will have MORE hassle.

You're missing way too many variables in your quest to be debt free, however the main one relates to where you want to go next, ie you've made it clear you wish to be "normal" again however lets assume that a lender refuses all F&F offers you make - you then have to start paying monthly - as such the entry stays on your credit file for an additional 6yrs. As things stand, you know categorically 100% that by 2016 your credit file will be blank anyway!

You know what you need to do, best of luck! I gracefully bow out at this point and wish you all the best. I hope your plan works, but experience tells me i'll see you again in a few months back to square one with no funds left. You ought to reconsider this silly notion of repayment and read up on offers, you've not really thought things through properly....

p.s. the above is not a rant, i'm trying to get you to listen to advice from those that know, and not so much listen to family/friends who do not understand how these things work!

      Best of luck.......

Thanks Niddy, I do hear you! I'm struggling with the thought of paying them off (and family backing/ pushing for me to do that) vs the wait for 2016.

If I only made offers to the 2 im currently on an arrangement with - really bad idea?

Simultaneously keep running with the unenforceability with Halifax, Sainsburys and MBNA. Let MINT and Nationwide keep ignoring me.. CCA them when/ if they do crop up.

Cursing myself, as if I'd known all this in 2004 and had the courage then, my file would be clear now!

I hate to sound horrible, but who is this about? You or family? You simply cannot do what you want with the amount you have - sorry, no chance. I am good at getting low offers accepted, but it takes about 5 hours of haggling per account - so imagine the effort you'd be asking of me here? I cannot commit so sorry, would only offer basic advice as I already know what will happen....

Honest answer? idiotic and unlawful. If I was one of the creditors you never paid, i'd sue you for the lot - its wrong and unethical to consider this.

Why when the two you want to make offers with could also be UE? Pay them off, your credit file changes and then the others are onto you like a fly to shit - honestly! Butterfly effect and some!

Hindsight - then don't fall into the same trap a second time and listen to us, trust me here - on this subject we will know more than your parents that may or may not be hassling you to pay - in 6yrs you *could* be right back here asking for the same help, ie knackered credit file till 2023 - is that what you want?....

            Re: 1245pebbles UE Diary

Hi Pebbles - sorry don't mean to just jump on your thread but I have been reading about the dilema's you have been having.

In an ideal world it would be great to make F and F offers and get them accepted.

I have been up and down with my finances for well over 18 months now - and at one point was on the point of considering BR. I then went on a self managed debt management plan with in the back of my mind once my house had been sold to make F&F offers. However a long and messy and expensive divorce put paid to that.

I finally then looked at UE route (which like you - wish I had thought about this yonks ago! I had spoken to Niddy way back at begining of my journey). However I can't look back so I am here at the begining of a roller coster ride. I am surrounded by people on here who have all been in similar situations and who can "virtually" hold my hand.

I know my friends and family don't really understand what this is all about - why? the simple fact is they have not been in the pickle that I am in with money. I know if my or my sister could they would sort out all my debt, I am of the ilk that this is my pickle and for me to sort it out and here I am.

Just remember there are so many of us on this forum who have been where you are and know exactly what you are feeling. I think I sound like a bit of a broken record but you really are in great hands with Nid and this site.

            Good luck with it all

I'm going to have a serious think. I do appreciate all your advice honestly. I'm a bit muddled up now as I had (or thought I had) a glorious plan haha.

              thank you, as always!

I hope you do have a think, you need to cos right now you are going about things the wrong way (on more than one count) and it is not often I say that, in fact I never do.

I do not want to pressure you into anything, BUT I can see this going tits up and all I want to do is to stop it from happening before your heart is set on a particular outcome or before it blows up in your face - in any case, your plan is flawed and will not be successful. If it could be, trust me - i'd be honest and would have suggested it long ago!

Honestly Pebbles I really was the same. Only you can make your mind about what you want to do.

I know when I finally came to the deicision about which way to go, i felt a huge weight lifted - ok it is not easy - but at least I know which direction I am going in.

Good Luck and I'll keep having a pop in a read of your diary to see how you are getting on

Thank you! I do truly appreciate it

I do really really want it all gone so I don't have to think about it anymore, so it's quite gutting to not be able to knock at least a few off the list.

I need to take a week or so to get my head around that I guess and do nothing in the meantime.

A week? Bloody hell, world war 1 was decided in 4 hours woman!!

Take the time-out and sort your head, only agree to whatever makes you happy but do not be disillusioned, paying these will do NOTHING for your credit file nor for your sanity cos the other lenders will then try and take action against you (ie ccj's etc) to recover their losses prior to you blowing it on other lenders again...

Surely you see this? You simply cannot favour one creditor over another - its not for you to decide this! Its for them to follow guidelines and pro-ratio things....

                        Re: 1245pebbles UE Diary

Pebbles -honestly I was completely like you were - you can ask Nid - I really couldn't get my head round it - but then I calmly sat down read other diarys spoke to Nid and others and finally worked my way through it - if you read some of past posts you can see how many questions I asked. Yes I understand how you feel that you could pay one or two off - but I have now realised you have to act the same for all your creditors you cannot favour one.

I felt terrible you know the "nice" people at Mint accepted my reduced payment straight away, they defaulted me straight away, stopped interest and I had no problems with them - but once my decision was made to go down the UE route I knew that all my creditors had to be treated the same - I now totally have my head round that.

As has been said this has to come from you and be your decision, but I also know that my friends and family would not be the ideal people to go over this with. My brother in law's solution for me was to take out a consolidation loan - and we all know that just equals more and more mess.

Only you know what is best for you.

                        xx

What is FLM? You mean like those dodgy loan (with guarantors) or is it a DCA?

You'll be alright until their next monthly feed which they will see the balance has been paid - if you start to get any crap, let me know. I presume none of these lenders know your landline? I hope not!

dodgy guarantor loan but with no guarantor (their slip up) but they went for a CCJ which got thrown out. Went to reapply with correct info and they had an exact copy of my original agreement loan amount my sig, terms everything - so I offered to pay them off to stop it.
