    Tjperfick

    Sorry missed this one.

I think they are all worth trying as you never know you could be successful. Just think they are going to frustrate the hell out of you. Once you get into that mindset then I find all the pathetic excuses and rubbish service dont get to you so much.

Its the GE Money storecards that have been the real pain as they are widespread and Santander had a ready excuse for them all. As did the underwriters.

But I know nothing about GE Money loans.

Hopefully di will pop in with her wisdom.

Remind me again what paperwork you have on it and what was your recollection of the sale?

If you do decide to go for it I would suggest you start a new thread to keep the confusion to a minimum

No Ken, sorry this is GE money over a joint loan that me and my husband took out in December 2001. The PPi wasn't cancelled I think thae date that they are talking about was when the loan finished!
Sorry to confuse with some many queries going on all at once, just such good advice being given out, I thought I may get all my queries out in the open
    Thanks for all your advice.

As Di and Cym said they are wrong.

So you cancelled your policy in 2006 and they wrote to you then saying you really need to check this to see if we miss sold it to you?

or more like if you dont have this policy then the devil will come to eat your family.

Back in 2006 unless I am mistaken this PPI scandal hadnt really taken off and that didnt really happen till the bankers lost in court so I believe. The FCA is under some pressure to bring something like this in but it hasnt happened yet. So they are wrong. You have become aware of it recently because everyone is claiming and its all over the press. But it is only recently.

So I would perhaps ask did they they bring it to your attention in 2006 that they might have miss sold the policy to you and therefore you should claim or did they just try and flog something else to you as you had cancelled? Either they deal with it or you go to FOS and they incur the £850 just to be told by FOS that they are wrong.

The date of when it happened is a red herring. Nothing about 6 year old claims being time barred. Plenty of people have got claims back to the 1990's

Is this Santander writing to you? Bizarre. If it is they were clueless on my SAR until I complained direct to Ana Botin CEO. They sorted my SAR out within a week after messing me about for 6 months. So it worked.

They state in the letter sent back: " We can reject a complaint without considering its merits if :
The event that you are making a complaint about took place more than 6 years ago, or
If later, more than 3 years has passed since you knew or reasonably should have known you had reason to make a complaint.

They go to state that they are rejecting the complant without considering it merits because
" the event that you are making a complaint about occured on 2nd January 2002, being more than 6 years ago, and
"our standard sequence of communciation over the term of the policy, includes both cancellationa dn term expiry letter. We wrote to you on 4 December 2006 confirming that the insurance was due to expire and the consequences of not having adequate cover. These letters clearly made you aware of the insuranc about which you have now raised a complaint. If you were not already aware, this should have triggered any concerns you had about the policy,an these needed to be raised within 3 years following receipt of the letter sent to you on 4 December 2006"

They go to say that this is their final response.....

Any advice gratefully received - is this another underwriter case and should I write to GE fo rthe underwriters name?
    Thanks

I sent off the letter with £10 cheque last year for CC info. I just got back 6 years worth. Is it at all possible to get any further back. I used a letter from another forum last year, but think I have seen another one on here, is there one that asks for data going back longer?
    Hiya

With Santander when I requested for a SAR via GE Cap one account, they did actually send me all the info, but you can always write back if you note anything is missing or that you dont seem to have received all the information from when the account opened etc, and will give them 14 further days to send anything further. If they fail to fully comply, you can also raise that you will be considering contacting the Information Commissoners Office (ICO) in regards of them not fully complying.
However, some will hold data going back beyond the last 6 years and others say they do not.

Have they actually said they were not regulated? Who is the bank/insurer/PPI provider for this loan?

This my thread that covered GE money account from about the same time. It is 6 years from when you became aware that PPI was mis-sold. http://forums.all-about-debt.co.uk/s...closed-in-2003
