Timeshares and stopping the annual payments

My mum about 10 years ago brought a timeshare in florida but now she is getting on a bit, she doesn't use it. The problem is each year the management charges keep on going up.

They are now about £1000 year and it's a bit expensive!!!! She has offered to give it back to the company but they wont take it back ( even for nothing), my question is do you think an american company can enforce a contract in the UK and will they bother???
