Back in the days when the only form of on-line conferencing was the system of dial-up computer bulletin boards known as FidoNet (there were also ChatNet, AmigaNet and ScrewNet, to name only three, but Fido was the biggest) someone managed to irritate one of my friends. Shortly afterwards, someone logged on to a system as a new user, made his way to the distributed electronic conference in which new systems might be advertised and posted an advert. The advert stated that the system had five lines all using the same number, that it had got electronic conferences from all over the place, loads of games to download, that it was operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and that it was absolutely free to use.

There was just one slight snag that the advert did not mention.

The number given did not have a computer system connected to it, as it was the voice line of the oaf who had annoyed my friend.

Within a few days, as the advert was propagated throughout FidoNet, the number of calls made to that number steadily increased. A lot of them were made at night, or in the early morning.

I believe the oaf ended up having to change his phone number.

            Re: Payday Loans and charges

Finally, after copying in JB debt recovery have had a sort of answer from Wanka. They have escalated it to their finance department......

Now taking on MEM in Bicester who are not reading my emails but replying to them..
            1) asked for 0 payment and said I was dealing with it
            2) They replied that 15 a month was minimum
            3) I replied asking again and saying it was odd because they had accepted a token £1 when I was with a DMC
            4) They replied accepting my token payment (with bank details) and asked if I was still with a DMC
            5) I have replied suggesting that they learn to read and understand English , asking for 6 months freeze and making it a formal complaint (sent by email , letter going in post tomorrow)

I have finally had a statement of account from Wonga which I have attached. Huge charges and a complete fantasy. I can prove that they had the first payment (for 4 months ) on 2/2/2009 and a payment every month until feb this year. So there statement of account is a pack of lies. Any suggestions please please

I am assuming that it was when they passed it to jb debt recovery. It was already with my dmc at that point. In fact it was with them almost right from the date the first payment was due I

                      Re: Payday Loans and charges

I have just received another statement of account with more but not all payments on it (same charges). Also after reading their t&c's there are a lot of charges to dispute. The extra interest seeing as we were in touch with them from day 1. The two default charges seeing as i told them prior to missing the payment and of course that point£93 collection charge. I think a formal complaint is in order

Thanks. I am more than happy to do that but when or if they issue a county court summons do i have and are there people on here who can help me with a defence and/or counter claim

                            1. Wonky cannot issue a County Court summons themselves.
                            2. Only a County Court can do that and they do not welcome competition.
                            3. It is relatively unlikely that Wanka would try to litigate, as they're all mouth and crap Australian strides.
                            4. Yes, there are, but I'm not one of them; there are people on here far more able than myself.

This lot need shutting down - along with all the other shysters offering similar 'services'.

Why oh why are they allowed to operate when loan sharks offer a better rate of interest........and they are subject to advertising campaigns from the authorities asking people to 'shop' 'em.

I have sometimes suggested that, following the "success" with usurious consumer credit, a similar licensing scheme be introduced for burglary. A licensed burglar would be immune from prosecution as long as s/he complied with a rigid Code of Conduct which would include such key points as:
                                • Not removing any items of obvious sentimental attachment
                                • Not burgling the same property more than twice in five years, unless there has been a change of owner
                                • Never causing needless mess or mindless damage
                                • Always leaving a business card behind that gives their registration details

I am sure that such a scheme could help to reform domestic and commercial burglary going forward.
