It says that during these difficult economic times they know things are hard and tough for everyone which is why they are offering me a fabulous offer..... I can pay a one off payment of £500 to close the issue. I trust you will find this offer very appealing against the total debt which is £2460(think this was the total). This offer is only walid until 3/4/2012.

I will await for a response to the letter i actually sent them.
    Don't hold your breath.

    Hi Leeroy

I know its easy to say, but don't let these lowlifes stress you out, this is how they work and this is how they manage to get people to make payments.

Think about it - if a total stranger called you up and demanded money from you what would your response be normally?!

Cabot and Ruthbridge specialize in buying SB debt and then scaring people into paying back a debt that they don't have to.

The prove it letter is the first step - the onus of proof is on the DCA to prove a debt exists, not on you to prove it doesn't.

Let them get their knickers in a twist over providing evidence of a debt. They make come out with some garbage about having a 'statement' or even that you made a payment in the last 6 years.

Again, you will ask them to provide the evidence.

When you have got them worked up enough on that, you will hit them with a CCA request. This should make them scurry off as the effort at this point won't be worth it.

But one step at a time right?!

    Best
    SnV

I thought that was what you meant!

Can you get the MoD plods to investigate?

If i write back using the know nothing/prove it letter, should i also add a bit in there that the alleged account is not even on my credit file? Thus meaning they should get the hint that even if it is mine, it will be SB?
No, don't do that! If you can send me a copy that'd be great.....

Then it's a number you have previously used for instance, have you ever given it out when applying for anything? if so then a lender/dca searches N Hunter which tells them things like work numbers etc (when you last made an application for credit)....
