I will be calling on xxxxxxxxxxxxxx = TELEPHONE between 9a.m. and 9 p.m. probably near the point, as that type notice is used by most of DCAs including I 1st saw for somebody from RMA. tears ago.

We shall see should be a Denial of Access letter around?

How can they call when there letter states that they have removed my phone number from their system and accept that i will only deal with them by letter or email.

Also as they have threatened to visit previolusy i take this as a direct threat of some knob head calling.

I have just noticed that the OFT debt collecting guidance uses postcards as an example of harresment under section 3.7

will be writing to the ombudsmen tomorrow

Just pointing out past experiance, no call letters sent before and low and behold calls in the past.

sorry if i sound like im having a go at you, so far this evening i have come home from work, picked up these letters, had grief from the wife as she is worried that some baliff will come round the house and take all her nice things, along with the stress and embarresment of that, plus shes had a shit day at work, which has now become my fault and the dog wont stop continually barking at me.

im am just pissed off with this shit, i was dealing with cougar but now i just want to go bananas! to put it nicely.

Can i refuse to deal with them and just refer back to dealing with capital one as these pricks are idiots.

Woah, you're getting confused - these are NOT bailiffs - they are literally house-calling DCA's - they have NO rights.

Unlike a bailiff, if they shove their foot in your open door then get an axe and chop the friggin thing off - they have no right and if they hassle your mrs just tell her to close the door and/or call the police.

They usually go away, hang on I'll ask one of the mods to post here, she's an elderly woman and can tell you what she did - basically told them to get lost and they went! Just like that.

Point is, don't stress and tell your mrs not to either

                Hi,

I am the "elderly woman" in question. Had to deal with two of these creatures about two years ago - one called the day I was discharged from hospital after breaking my hip. (Almost certainly he had been there while I was hospitalised!)

Anyway, I am in my 60s - just over 5 feet tall and weighing only 8.5 stone. The callers were huge! The debts were disputed and I just stood there (leaning on a zimmer frame the second time!) and informed them that they were disputed. One of them wanted to come in and use the phone but I politely informed him that he could not.

Niddy is right - these creatures are not bailiffs and have no official authority whatsoever. After visit 2 I edited the template which referred to a visit, and had a copy printed ready for them. But they did not return.

From what I have read you have already come to an agreement to pay so it may be that the threatening letter from them crossed in the post. They are a bit like dinosaurs - takes a while for information to reach their brain.

I know it is easy to say "don't worry" but, bizarrely, if you can face them down you will feel a lot better about the situation. I ended up feeling sorry for the first bloke!

Keep your chin up - remember we are all here for help and support, and most of us have been through similar situations. xxx

                  Re: power2contact

EVEN if some knob did appear, it wouldn't be a bailiff, it'd be some hapless eejit trying to collect the debt or get you to set up a payment plan. You tell him to bugger off, as previously explained.

as previously explained, this is not worth the blood pressure, these threats are pretty common with UE and are nothing to get your knickers in a twist about - which by the way is precisely what they want you to do - you are playing into their hands.

Sorry, I didn't mean it in a derogatory sense, I was trying to explain that even grannies can handle such visits so don't worry....

Ahh bugger it I'm digging a deeper hole, I'll forget it

But you know what I meant, I hope!

Don't worry, Niddy - I have been called much worse than that!

Plus, I AM elderly and a grandma. But feisty with it - I hope!

And I have a lot of reasons to be grateful for the help and support you and the people on this forum have given to me.

I'm a granny too...and I've had loads of those cards and letters threatening to visit...only had one visit...and I soon got rid of him!

The card is doing exactly what the dca intended it to do...scare you. DON'T be scared of them...they have NO powers at all...only court-appointed bailiffs have the right to enter your home.

                            Re: power2contact

I've had letters threatening doorstep visits which didn't materialise, but also had a doorstep visit from power2contact on the 15th September 2010.

They were politely told to piss off, and haven't been back since. They can't force entry, they can't climb in windows, they can't take stuff, they have no power. Treat them the same as you would a double-glazing salesman - as an inconvenience!

Please don't worry about this, it is just some pleb trying his luck who will shuffle off when you tell them to xx

Over the years I must have had 30+ letters from various DCA's
threatening doorstep visits, but i've only had 1 visit.

I opened the door, said I wasn't in and goodbye, then shut the door
leaveing the stood there with a "WTF happened there " look on his face,

As others have said they have no rights at all, and can't do a thing.
