Just nine days left to spend old paper £5 notes on the High Street before they become worthless

Shoppers have just nine days to spend old paper £5 notes before they become worthless on the High Street. From Saturday, May 6, you will not be able to use them in shops, cafes and restaurants. Banks, building societies or post offices will usually exchange them for you after this date. If they refuse, the notes can still be exchanged with the Bank of England in London by post or in person. This is because all Bank of England notes retain their face value indefinitely.
