Certificated enforcement agents (previously known as bailiffs) are to be offered the opportunity to arrange their compulsory liability insurance bond through a recently formed professional association. One of the hurdles all enforcement agents (EAs) have to overcome before they can start enforcement, is to purchase a bond, Which indemnifies them against claims made through the county court under a general complaint (formerly a Form 4) from debtors, up to a maximum of £10,000. When they go before a district judge, enforcement agents, under the Certification of Enforcement Agents Regulations 2014, must produce evidence of their bond as part of the certification process and on approval, are then placed on the public register. In recent years, only one insurance company has been prepared to issue the bonds to individuals.
