Directors of firms that plague consumers with nuisance calls and texts are almost certain to be held personally liable in future, under plans to beef up government powers. Digital economy minister Ed Vaizey has announced that the government plans to target board-level executives, by looking at introducing either primary or secondary legislation. In the short term, the government will make it easier for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to fine businesses up to £500,000 for harassing consumers.
