RBS customers are receiving unexpected letters from their bank telling them their cards will be replaced, even where there has been no suspicious activity on their accounts

Royal Bank of Scotland current account customers are receiving letters out of the blue from their bank saying that their debit cards have been "compromised" and require replacing. The action is being taken even where the customer has not lost money nor noticed any suspicious activity on their account. RBS did not say how many customers were being contacted, but told Telegraph Money the action was part of a trial launched in June this year aimed at stamping out card fraud before it occurred. It said: "We take the security of our customers very seriously and have a dedicated team who work to identify potential compromised cards."
