HM Revenue & Customs will close the last of its public walk-in inquiry centres next week. The offices, open for face-to-face chats with taxpayers struggling with their bill, are being replaced by a telephone service where taxpayers in need of extra help will be directed to specialist advisers. They will try to resolve tax and tax credit queries in one call.
