Police send in a bomb disposal robot after suspect package is found outside Barclays' Canary Wharf HQ

Barclays was rocked by a bomb scare this morning, after a suspect package was found outside the bank’s Churchill Place HQ in Canary Wharf. Police put the surrounding area in lock-down mode as a bomb disposal robot was deployed to make the streets safe. At around 10.15am, there were reports of a controlled explosion, after staff were evacuated from the building, causing “chaos” as thousands of displaced bankers flooded the nearby Churchill Place shopping mall. One Barclays employee, who works in the bank’s restructuring division, told The Telegraph: “I couldn’t get in [to the building] at 9am – the building was on lock-down. But the guys inside were only told to evacuate at 10am. “There’s chaos in the mall, with thousands of bankers everywhere. Everyone’s really confused as we haven’t been given any information by Barclays. But there are rumours there has been a small controlled explosion outside the building.".........Read more here
